The shackles are like an inch thick or so, so not much at all. The valence itself doesn’t stick out any more than the original cover, at least not noticeably to me.

Until it passes crash testing, they cannot be included from the factory.

I wish the bumper part was steel or aluminum.

whats the point if the rest is all plastic though? Sure, it will add weight but won’t do anything structurally

I was on the fence looking at DV8 and CBI bumpers. Yes they are steel, but you have to remove the LARGE box square aluminum Toyota OEM crash bumper. That thing is stout and designed to protect in a high speed crash. The aftermarket ones I would bet have never been crash tested. Also the plastic bumper covers can be replaced as needed. You dent those steel after market bumpers and they are deformed for good.

Comes down to personal preference. I like the "Stockish" look and wasn't planning on a winch, so I think I made the right call.

For someone who has done a ton of offroad driving and offroad recovery its just absolute garbage these don't come standard. You bring a good point, go ahead be cheap and make us buy shakles. Meet us half way, better than none at all.

Completed my install today, now just need to decide if I stick with OEM shackles or the Reno red billet aluminum versions…

I’m definitely leaning Red too…I like that it takes an Allen wrench to remove them which helps deter theft as well. The OEM shackle you can just unscrew and it comes right off.

@wallygator12000 How did you get the Reno shackles on? I bought them and the passenger side went on easy but on the driver's side the shackle pin hits the the part of the plastic bumper that sticks out. I could not get the drivers on one. I see you mounted your reverse so on your's how did you get the shackle pin through on the passenger side?

@Calif-Tundra - that’s interesting because I didn’t have any issue at all with the pin contacting the plastic bumper? You’re correct that I mounted both reverse (so the Reno logo is facing backwards). I took a picture of both to show how much clearance I have to the bumper (left/passenger is first pic, right/driver’s is second pic).

The third pic is the left/passenger with the pin out - mine has enough clearance that the bumper doesn’t prevent the pin from inserting with the shackle inline with the mounted receiver? When the pin is as far out as I show in the picture the shackle is free and slides off the receiver.

Does anybody know if Toyota is going to make tow hooks compatible with the 3in TRD lift? I had to pull my neighbor out of the snow a few weeks back, and that's when I discovered I did not have tow hooks. Seems like if you spend 65k on a truck tow hooks should be standard.

Yep, I had the same problem. Unscrew some of the bolts that hold plastic bumper on. There is a total of 8 of them along the bottom of the bumper. You'll then have enough play to pull the bumper out of the way.

Why did Toyota create these to use a shackle?
Wouldn’t a non removable hook work just as well?

I buy from temy for over two years already, it is the same as you buy from Amazon or anyone else and better return policy if you dont like it. Everything is made in china, dont be confused.

I think a lot of guys like the shackles for a more secure mounting point. That and you can get cool colors to impress the baristas at Starbucks. (I kid of course about the baristas)
The real question is "Why didn't Toyota put these hooks on from the factory?"
