As long as they are providing a loaner, they are within the realm of what is stated in the recall documents released on NHTSA.

This statement doesn’t make sense. Let me put it this way. We have 3 full production years, 22, 23 and 24. Much more miles on 22 than 23 and even less on 24. 22’s are still reporting failure. So we don’t know how many will eventually fail. How can you say that’s the same as the rates on 24 if the rate for 22 is unknown? Do you know the current rate of failure on 22’s and can you share a ballpark?

My truck is still running without any problems. I guess my truck is slotted for a different engine release phase.

I haven't kept up with this thread, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered recently.

Is the current most informed speculation that the engine debris issue wasn't fully resolved until Nov 2024? And, has it been confirmed that hybrids do not have motive power after the engine failure occurs?

If so, is there any indication that Toyota will expand the recall to include all Gen 3 Tundras up to 11/24, including hybrids?

    Correct on all accounts.

EDIT: Toyota HAS NOT given any indication of expanding the recall.

So, Toyota has hinted at expanding the recall?

Helps when you don't read too fast.

Toyota HAS NOT given any indication at expanding the recall.

    Apologies.

I would think the failure rate would have gone down even if not fully resolved. Are you saying that Toyota believes the failure rate post-2/23 builds may be at a similar failure rate as those involved in the recall? I'm sure there's a line in the sand where failure rate is enough to expand the recall versus not.

Are they 100% sure of themselves that post-Nov builds are finally free and clear of debris forever?

Also curious that if some recall engine assemblies were built before 11/24, do they believe those may also be affected by debris?

I can not answer the other questions, but the recall motors are being assemble in a different "line" than the non recall motors. So hopefully those are clean motors.

Dealerships are now reporting that the engine assembly for the recall is having post replacement failures.

Oh ffs! Given that you can’t share much of your info and knowledge here, let me cut to the chase and ask you what I’m sure a lot of us are thinking. I’m over 100k km of problem free driving. Do I get my motor changed as soon as I can or keep going for as long as possible on current one? What are your thoughts?

Hit the nail on the head - thank you.

I’m trying to keep up here but @sudobash are you saying that there are reports of failures on some engines that have already been replaced? Any idea if these would be short blocks or long blocks being replaced originally?

Additionally, are you saying that the crated engines are being built on their own assembly line? And that the debris issue wasn’t likely resolved until Nov 2024 hence why we’re still seeing failures for all MY’s (‘22-‘25)?

I’m looking at buying a used 2022 that has 63,000 KM on it (Canada) and am trying to wrap my head around all of this. It sounds like it’s a combination of poor QC and potentially design, and I’m hoping that it’s less of the latter. Can you comment on this? I know you can’t say specifics around failure rate but any ball park numbers?

I originally thought this recall could be a potentially good thing when buying used. Lower prices and a guaranteed new engine but it doesn’t give me a whole lot of confidence hearing about post replacement failures. Any idea what Toyota is doing in these situations? Another replacement?

TLDR: before it’s too late, should I avoid buying anything 2022+?

Not seeing anything new that would allow a better answer. The remedy has been released to Canada, but not Phases have been presented as of yet.

The Engine Assembly for the Recall Remedy is supposedly experiencing failures. This is per dealership communications amongst themselves.

I called one of the dealerships in my area and provided the VIN of the one I’m looking at. They said probably 5-6 months for this one with a build date of Aug 2022

Dumb question. Are you referring to the actual action of assembling the engine or the replacement engines are failing?

What if I ask nicely? But fair. Curious to know what the overall failure rate is to date (I believe 94k sold in 2022, and 125k sold in 2023). The Google sheet helps paint a bit of a picture but I can only assume there are a lot more missing because 125 failed across over 219k+ sold isn’t as horrible as everyone is making it sound.

Has anyone heard how Toyota is approaching the failed replacement?..

IF true, Toyota requires matching part numbers on warranty claims. So IF a replacement long block failed, a long block must be replaced.

That’s what I’d hope. Even if outside the 12 month period after replacement?

It would be whatever Toyota is doing for warranty duration....if Toyota is only giving 12 months, then it would be up to the customer to purchase needed parts....HOPEFULLY Toyota will make long blocks available
