Hey y'all. My radio in my first gen 2004 Tundra SR5 quit working so I went and pulled one from a pick a part. Got it from an 04 sequoia. The original part number was 16848. The new one is A56835. It's got the 6 CD slot and RDS capability. After install all sound has stopped working. Has anyone else tried this out?

Were either of the radios JBL?

Did you confirm the fuse isn't blown?

When you were testing the radio, if you didn't have the wiring harness that goes to the clock/center dash connected, radio won't turn on.

Understand something: If the radio you picked up OR your truck originally had had the JBL system, and you plug it into a truck with the OEM Fujitsu amp, that shit is NOT going to work, and you're liable to fry something. Most Toyota radios have connectors on the back for amplified and non-amplified systems, so they're pretty universally compatible. But if either your truck or the donor truck had JBL system in it while the other vehicle didn't, you can't fuck with that.

They were both JBL, I just pulled mine out and plugged the new one in. Both JBL head units, just different models. I haven't checked the fuse though. Radio turns on and RDS works fine. Just no sound.

Just because they're in the same general family doesn't mean they're wired the same. Especially if you're NOt driving a double cab. Double cabs are very similar (but not identical) to the Sequoia. Access cab and regular cab are totally different beasts and the wiring can be substantially different between the two.

You'll need to get the EWD for the 2004 Sequoia: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ultimate-sequoia-wiring-diagrams-collection.111234/
And compare the pinout to the EWD for the 2004 Tundra: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ultimate-tundra-wiring-diagrams-collection.81448/

You're specifically looking for the keyword "RSES" in "Double Cab" version for the Tundra EWD. Sequoia will probably have RSES, but for the reasons I mention above, you need to be careful.

If you find the wiring is identical, you need to consider that the donor vehicle's radio was fucked from the getgo. The radio itself may be your problem. Especially if pulled from a JY.

Thanks for the info! Those diagrams are a little out of my ballpark so I will probably end up just buying another radio the same model as the original and putting that in. If my amp isn't fried by now ill hope it works out.

Is changing out my amp an option?

You can find that answer using the steps I provided above.

If the harness pin out is the same on both, it should be possible. Hell, you may even be able to switch around pins on your tundra and it’s possible, the diagrams will tell you if/what is different so you know what wires to swap.

Or it may just be the radio you bought is fried and not working, again, if the pin outs are identical, then it “should” be a plug and play affair, which means the radio you got may be toast. Every junkyard I’ve ever gone to will either give a refund or credit if something you bought isn’t working.
