OEM inner tie rods, super easy with the right tool. Found some fluid in both bellows, but my level is normal. After 20 years i have never had to top it off and just chalking it up as normal. The old tie rods were very loose and the tire side to side play was noticeable.

 

Flatbed tundra, now that’s pretty sick.

Can tie rod ends be torqued down while on jack stands or does it the vehicle have to be on its own weight to torque down the castle nut? I replaced mine yesterday but wasnt sure. Its still on stands now while I get my coilover circlip locations changed to a different preload. Was just wondering if i can torque the TRE now or wait until its back on wheels. Thanks!

 

Tie rods should be fine, they’re not load bearing.

 

Alignment done this morning, steering wheel straightened and front tires rotated. Oh man, it feels tight again!!!

 

So I dont have pics but im ended up going with #3 notch on my Bilstein 6112s on both sides. Because it started raining a bunch last night I didnt have a chance to torque everything down but it is sitting on its wheels.

Definitely have a bit of rake with my MD archive garage leafs and probably about 500lbs with my camper shell and gear. So im probably getting over 1.5 inches in the rear. I did take a crude measurement from the ground to the middle of the fender front and rear and its about an inch higher in the rear.

I wanna get it aligned saturday and take a better look at it, hard to see how everything sits in my driveway close up. But im thinking I might want to try Total Chaos Lowering Shackles.

I think I remember someone in here running these, any opinions or feedback on these shackles? Or pictures of them on your Tundra?

 

Having some blue smoke on warm starts... check my pcv, vacuum hoses, and spark plugs.

Everything seemed in order. I'm not overly worried but will continue to keep an eye on things and troubleshoot.

Oh, btw, is there a definitive sound deadening/proofing thread for 1GTs? I've done it before but am always looking for lessons learned specific to this truck...

 

New VVTI solenoid installed this morning.

 

Curious about two things.

Did you check the screen the solenoid apparently slides into?

Is this (circled) an O-ring?

I didn't check to see the screen just yet. I was in a bit of a rush this morning as I had to help my dad move some stuff with he truck. After about an hour total drive time, I got home and checked around the new solenoid. No oils leakage from what I could see.

And yes that is the o-ring. It was very hard and brittle like the spark plug tube gaskets were. I'm not sure how that would even be serviceable. I couldn't see a way to get a new one on easily, but honestly I didn't look to hard. I still have the old part that I can fool with.

O-ring is O-ring. Any replacement that's roughly the same diameter & thickness and is oil resistant will suffice.

Ps - I'd get some degreaser if you haven't already; clean up the oil shower buildup you had on the framerails etc., that way you can track if anything else is dripping oil. I usually spray with a basic degreaser and use a wheel brush, works pretty well.

Good info. I'll make that my chore on the next dry day. I plan to do a big engine bay clean up.

 

Changed out bump stops to timbren active bumps, greased lca bushings and I’m pretty sure I found my strange cyclical noise I’ve been hearing after solo lower arm install and alignment; the dust shields on the front brakes were making slight contact so I bent them away a smidge.

 

Those are some big ass channel lock pliers!

 

Knipex…….. far superior to CL but yes they made the job somewhat easier

 

I dont know why, but dad has always called giant channel locks heckle & jeckles. And being raised by him, thats what i call em.

 

Can't recommend this stuff enough. I know they carry it at Vatozone if you have one nearby. I reco'd to @FirstGenVol a while back, I think he dug it also. scAmazon has a nice brush assortment kit I use for engine detailing:

Yup, channel locks or adjustable pliers here too.

 

I knew they weren’t the channel-lock brand but here were tend to call everything by their brand name…Kleenex for tissues, Fribble for frappe, Hoodsies for ice cream cups (or freshmen HS girls with big hair).

Don’t ask me where we got clicker, cold cuts, packie or nips.
