Trying to attached the picture but my internet isn’t the greatest. But the engine is in and all the gaskets to seal up all the connections are still from the old one was what I got told.

They should have had your gaskets when the engine came in...

Tomorrow will be a week with my new engine, everything is going great. The pic is from this morning when I had 675 miles on it, has 800 tonight. The 1k oil change i will do Friday along with the diff's and transfer case (basically a new truck with 88k on it!). This new engine definitely gets better fuel mileage than the original engine, I was lucky to get today's kind of mileage with summer blend fuel before...

New engine in today (old one had 19,125 miles and didn't think I was experiencing any issues).
Took 2.5 days and they also performed the following under warranty:
    - New front brakes (pads, shims, rotors)
    - New tpms sensors
    - fuel line recall
    - new exterior window seal trim
    - new interior HVAC vents (old ones wouldn't stay put in selected position)
    - detail
So far I've noticed the new motor to be much smoother and quieter. Acceleration hesitation is gone. Very pleased with the 'new' truck!

Man, I can’t imagine my engine running smoother! I’m trying to push this replacement out as far as possible but hearing all these reports might change my mind!! Up in Canada tho so it might be a year before my number comes up anyway.

I'm with you. Other than the occasional hesitation taking off from a stop I can't imagine an engine running better than what I have in my Nov 2022 build 2023 Tundra. Hopefully the new motor and programming will fix that. My window for replacement is supposed to be May but I am skeptical that they will meet that.

    55,000 miles - Engine ran fine..I thought
New engine was installed last week, and took it on a 700 mile road trip TO Sun Valley Idaho.
Runs greats...Got better gas milage then before
I am not easy on the truck, I have drove it hard with the first engine. Gonna give it a a little breakin period, but not going to hold back once broken in.
    Overall happy
Loaner was a 2024 4runner (which i had previous to the Tundra)
I forgot how underpowered that old engine was, not good for the Mtns

Great write up! Do you reset your MPG at each fill up? I'm curious as I never do. I do 50/50 driving. Meaning stop and go and country 4 lanes with no traffic.

    I average 19.4.

So I'm a bit confused. I have a '22 under recall, no problems at the moment. But I called the dealer/service dept last week and the manager said that they couldn't get to mine as they were currently only replacing those which had failed. But yet, I've seen some other threads were people were just getting theirs replaced having not failed. Is this more or less a dealer by dealer decision in how they're choosing to bring them in? This dealer did mention they could "keep checking" for me - they made it sound like it was an inventory issue and their hands were tied. Just wanting some clarification.

You in the US or Canada? I’ve heard someone else say the same thing about what’s happening in Canada. Haven’t spoke to the dealership myself tho

I’m in the US. I haven’t called the other shop close by (mainly because I don’t like their service dept) to get a different answer, just thought I’d throw it out here to see people’s experiences. There is part of me that wonders if what they told me (it was an inventory issue) was really just their way of trying to keep their shop from being overwhelmed with requests. I believe he said they were currently averaging 2 or 3 swaps a week.

Very strange since there is currently a guy with an engine failure in another thread that was told he had to wait until it was time for his production date to be replaced and it would be quite a wait. Basically the exact situation your dealer told you was getting fixed but he can’t get a motor either. Sounds like bs to me.

It's actually a complete engine & not just a long block.
Cab off is the best way of getting the job done, 10-12 hr job.
We have done at least 35 & have a few more engines waiting for the truck to be dropped off.

interesting, so you guys don't follow the motherships guide 100% just find what works for you guys type deal?

cab off always looks worse than it is I think, but I would be concerned with new rattles, etc vs just popping off the hood

I can't imagine the cab off approach being easier than the cab-on videos that are floating around.

But, after 35 engine swaps, I'm sure the techs have found what works best for them.

That would be a good time to change out the hot and cold pipes for some aftermarket ones.!!!

I had a similar experience with my normal dealer. I called around and found some that were actively interested in taking on the work. I felt like the 1st one didn’t really want to get involved unless push came to shove. I will be avoiding them in the future if at all possible.

So yesterday I changed the oil on the new engine (changed fluid in both diff's and transfer case as well) . As I was wrapping up I thought I might as well clean the TRD air filters so the truck would be 100% on all maintenance. I was surprised to see a 10 mm bolt stuck in the pleats of the filter. Not too happy but if that's all I could find after going thru the truck from top to bottom I will take it. Side note, new engine is getting summer mpg on the winter blend fuel, hope it stays that way!

Dang, that would drive my OCD nature crazy wondering where that bolt goes.

Glad the new engine is working out for you.

Just saw this on FaceBook, 2022 SR5 TRD Sport. Not me, but the guy has 37k miles long block replaced. On Engine #2, at 85k miles. He found small metal shavings during oil change. Dealership going to replace it with crate motor.
    No power loss, no CEL.

Something there doesn’t add up. They were doing only short blocks prior to the recall, and the long blocks started rolling out sparsely last fall. So he would have had to put 48,000 miles on a new long block in just a few months? I suspect he had a short block replaced earlier due to engine failure and is now getting a long block replaced under the recall. Does anyone know if those who had short block replacement work done are now getting new engines under the recall?

This was discussed when the gen 3’s first came out. It’s a calibration thing apparently. All of them ran there. There was a TSB I believe that fixed the fuel gauge issue and recalibrated the oil pressure gauge. Newer models must all come out with that upgrade if yours is different.

Yes, as stated above. With the new engine the gauge does fluctuate more than before (same as my other tundras), other than cold starts the gauge hardly moved at all.

Picked up my 22 yesterday with the new block installed, hoping it continues to be as reliable as it has been the first 32.2K miles. It's never hiccuped in that time and I carry 1500lbs of tools and equipment for my mobile repair business. Will post any updates of its behavior at 500 miles and beyond.
