A few of us on other forum heard of WAT back in 2012. Searching for beefier transmissions. Being in Australia a lot went with IPT/Level10. It's mentioned in their transmission training from Toyota etc to stick with WS...
From my reading around last night. Seems all mineral based dex3 were at the top as being good. Valvoline and Penzoil , non synthetic, were mentioned quite a bit.

You're welcome, I will get with the guys down under this afternoon (3 AM there right now!). Not sure what brands they have down under and I do know Wholesale has their own label. Probably not going to buy cases of fluid when we for sure have something that should work. I'll keep you guys posted

I think I'm seeing similar, and I like the price point enough to hope it is true. But hope isn't a plan, and certainly not for me at this specific point in my life/truck build journey. Could you imagine me explaining to the wife how I've been doomed by a fluid issue... again? We are already paying for that via 2 kids and a motor. A 4th is not in the budget. :)

You have to move it back to S4 for it to lock back up in 4th... If it's in S5, S6 or D it won't lock in 4th as the conditions that trigger the lock up will entice the transmission to shift to the next gear

Updated above for myself. Pricing will determine the pan or just the VB.

@Cruisers & Co. Any special pricing on just the pan? I believe they(PML) are $450 can be occasionally found for $399. I believe they are $477 USD on the WAT site.

Glad to have been able to help connect everyone.

Regardless of the outcome, I do want to say thank you to Johnny @Cruisers & Co. for coming to the table. It's been helpful having one voice delivering the facts with a direct conduit to the ownership and development teams of the product. I know for me, it's been really nice looking to one source (here) and getting answers without having to chase down emails or office hours or exchange rates, etc.

As a surprise bonus, rumor has it they may have also added another US dealer to their WAT network as well, so congrats to Johnny and Jesse @TurboKits on that collaboration. Jesse just dropped that news over in the Turbo thread a little bit ago. Pretty cool since the Tundra is just one of the platforms supported by both of them and by WAT.

Anyway to tune around that? Or maybe this lockup controller will do it? It’s not really an issue but an annoyance.

Lower the TC lockup rpm for 4th in Normal mode for it to lock is S4. I believe AI/cruise/coast is only active in D mode.

Do it. I went with this unit since it utilizes the factory gasket.

That is a plus. I've only replaced my oem pan gasket once in 14 years of owning it. That was only for my new transmission. $30 for PML cork or just use fipg...decisions!

I do have this lock up kit installed on my 2010 Crewmax 4x4. Installed it 2020. It is purely manual with a switch that goes on the switch panel along with the Tow/Haul switch. You just pop out the blank plates and put the switch back in.

The kit will lock up the converter in any gear except 1st gear. In D mode, S mode, tow/haul, 4 Hi, 4-lo, reverse. It has an emulator or simulator circuit that tells the ecu/tcu what it's expecting, so no malfunction codes will pop up. I even stalled the Tundra a few times and no malfunction light popped up.

As far as installation, it does require cutting some wires from the ecu harness just a few inches from the ecu connector in the engine compartment. Once the wires are cut, the wires from the module must be twisted and then soldered as the instruction states. The wires are colored.

The module will be inside the cab. It also has a big load resistor with cooling fins or heat sink and I believe this connects to the tc lock up solenoid.

Performance wise, it works as expected. My truck has a VF Tune for 91 octane and also has a Gear Lock and Direct Shift feature. So it will hold gear as low as 1500 rpm and after that the ecu takes over and downshifts automatically. One of those safety things. Direct Shift will let you manually upshift as long as the rpm will not fall below 1500 rpm, in that case, the ecu will take over and may or may not allow the upshift depending on various factors.

I use S mode 99% of the time. Usually put the shifter on 2nd gear and manually upshift. I also manually downshift as the truck slows down that way the rpm stays above 1500. If I have to stop or drive at very low speeds, I just turn the tc switch off that way I don't stall the engine.

With the tcu lock up kit, acceleration is more solid resulting in faster or quicker acceleration. My truck is NA with stock size AT tires, stock exhaust. Deceleration is also improved but I don't use too much of it.

Also, since there is no more torque multiplication as the tc is locked, you may need to let the rpm go up higher between shifts to compensate. I have used this kit with the truck loaded 1000 lbs of broken concrete and Quikrete gravel bags on the bed. And it will be noticeable there is no torque multiplication when tc is locked. Will need to downshift. But as far as mpg, it doesn't really affect it negatively keeping the rpm up from my experience. Unless I really race it. RPM rarely exceeds 3000 for me.

I bought the kit on ebay as I wasn't sure this company is legit. No reviews in the US on that product during that time. But everything went smoothly. Instructions are easy to follow. No customs fee were charged. Also, you can make shorting pins, that's what I call it, in case the module goes bad. You can just remove the module from the connector and install the pins at appropriate holes and that will basically connect the wires that were cut and spliced from the ecu harness. This way the truck will be driveable.

    I highly recommend this product.

Question: is there a bundle deal or savings on shipping? What I mean by that is since we won't need the factory gasket with the VB, does that not get shipped in f we buy the pan at the same time since the pan comes with the cork one.

Not a deal breaker but figured I'd ask. The cork gasket is a $30 item in itself according to the PML site. Every little bit helps. :)
