Roof trim

2016 tundra 1794. there are two black trim pieces on the roof. One can loose. Is this normally just a friction fit? There was one small strip of double sided foam tape.
should I reattach with tape?

Mine stay there mostly, but flop down the side of the truck once I go through the car wash dryer.

I tried double sided tape with no luck.

I just (as in today…) cleaned the rails where they sit and the bottom of the strips and used some SikaFlex 221 to secure them down. Taped them down with painters tape while they dried. We’ll see how that lasts, but based on past uses of Sika for sealing and securing things, I have high hopes.

 

@jmanscotch - How has this held up? Mine came off on the freeway today so looking for the best way to attach the new one

 

So far so good, but it’s only been 10/11 days.

I’ve used the SikaFlex on countless things on my off road trailer builds, like sealing down roof fans, window frames, etc and they all held great even before screwed down…so I have high hopes for it (if prep is done right).

 

my trim would come off on the driver side back every single time going through the car wash. Double-sided tape did the trick for me

 

This drives me nuts. My passenger side is fine, but the driver's side comes loose all of the time, especially if I run it through the car wash (where the gas door also gets blown open...). I've tried double sided tape but it didn't last and was a real pain to clean out later (stuck to the truck paint but not the rubber trim). When the weather dries out a bit I'll take some time to clean the channel out again and figure out my next attempted fix.
