Hi. I want to replace my 2011 radio Dealer says the problem of it going on and off is a cracked circuit board. Suggest and aftermarket as they are better and the oem would be very expensive. Thought I would upgrade to Apple play while I was at it. Difficult to find one with a built in siriusxm receiver, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

It should not be difficult to find that. Most all decent aftermarket Head Units will have all those features.

Id suggest you visit a local auto stereo shop and discuss options.

If you know about car audio and and handy, check out crutchfield for units/parts and install yourself.

But considering it seems difficult for you to find the HU with the features you want, just visit a local auto stereo store and have them assist you.

If I'm not mistaken, unless the newer HU's have it built in now, you'll need a device like an iDatalink Maestro in line between your HU and your truck's OBD port in order to have steering wheel controls and to communicate vehicle information like tire pressure, gauges, etc to the HU.
I put a Kenwood in my Tundra in 2020. In order for me to have steering wheel controls with the HU (as well as tire pressure and gauges displayed through the HU), I had to put in a Maestro. Most of the current HU's from most manufacturers have wireless CarPlay and AndroidAuto now.

Some HU's may have Sirius built in while others (like mine) are compatible with an external Sirius tuner that is required to have satellite radio. (Which I had to purchase also).

OEM new would be expensive,,,but a pick and pull might get you what you need cheap. You could also find
oem cheap from places like ebay,,pay and take your chances , but most times it works well for me.

A decent aftermarket with the maestro steering wheel controls would be the way to go..
You probably have more features than you do now, like tire pressure readout, graphic EQ, running nav apps off you phone, etc.

Make sure you get 'wireless' carplay.
I have a separate Sirius tuner but I never use it.
Unless you're in a weak cell service area, running Sirius off the app on your phone is better.
I run from Dallas to Little Rock M-F and have no problems with service..
Plus you'll have the extra internet channels and on-demand for any shows you might listen to.

Not sure if it would work for ya, but I've got a stock HU out of my 2015 Sequoia if you're interested.

Shouldn't be difficult to get all those things, most aftermartket HU's will have that capability, though not necessarily "built-in". (as Thumper mentions below)

^^^This. The Maestro is required to retain your steering wheel controls. I got the RR-2 which can be reflashed via Bluetooth without having to pull the unit, and gives you two programmable relay outputs to operate lights or whatever from the HU without having to run wires/switches into the cab.

I chose to buy an XM adapter rather than the separate tuner, allowing me to use the OEM sharkfin antenna and not install a new XM antenna.

I hadn't thought of all the extra channels on the app, that's a good idea.

So I went a little crazy, put a big ass Kenwood DMX1057XR in my '19

I had a good shop do the install so it was expensive, but I couldn't be happier with it. There's cheaper ways to get everything you want, I just decided to go with the "Buy Once, Cry Once" approach.

Sound quality is noticeably better even with the stock speakers (for now)

NAV is WAY better, using my phone's nav instead of the OEM. I couldn't even speak an address into the Toyota unit, had to stop and type it in.

Android Auto (carplay for my wife) is amazing, voice controls are better, I can just say "Text Jimmy" and speak the message.

I added a front camera, which makes life much easier when parking this big beautiful pig. I highly recommend this.

Maestro not only retains your steering wheel controls, it actually gives you a few new ones. You can program secondary "Press n' Hold" functions.

I have the "UP" button programmed to bring up my front camera, the "VOLUME UP" brings up my gauges, and "VOLUME DOWN" is TPMS.

Mine has wireless screen mirroring to my Samsung phone, and I had them replace one of the 12V outlets with an HDMI IN/USB jack so my wife can plug in her iPhone. Could also plug in a Firestick using a hotspot
This gives us Netflix, YouTube, Prime, Hulu, Paramount+, etc.

Great to have on road trips. Of course I just listen, and maybe glance occasionally, but passengers can watch whatever they want to entertain themselves.

Like I said, I went a little crazy. You can but don't have to, but I personally like a known quality unit. Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc. I was between Alpine and Kenwood, but I wanted an actual volume knob so I went Kenwood, and couldn't be happier.

Oh, and with the Kenwood Portal app, you can upload your own custom wallpaper screen or have it play a slideshow.

Look on Crutchfield, you can filter by the features you want and find something that'll suit your needs.

SD Surfer - I have the exact unit in my 2019 Tundra Limited, and NONE of the gauges work or give me any information.

I use the Maestro RR for an interface and the steering wheel controls work, but the only thing DMX gives me are AM/FM radio and Car Play. The compass doesn't even work correctly, nor does it give me weather or any of the cool features I was hoping for.

Don't get me wrong - I really only need CarPlay, but I was bummed that the gauges don't display even though I connected it to the OBD port.

    Any ideas?

You hooked up the datalink wire and OBD connection?

Definitely sounds like something's not connected if NONE of the gauges are working. There's some that we don't get but there should be something showing up.

Even when I wasn't getting the Trans Temp at first, I was getting other gauges... Y'know, like the 0-60 timer, 'cuz THAT'S super important for a 3-Ton brick.

Did you do the install or a shop?

Yeah, I did it myself. Hooked it all up with the instructions from iDataLink and Crutchfield. The only gauge it gives me is for tire pressure, but they're all totally wrong by a lot.

Maybe try to reflash the Maestro?

I'm off to a Dr's appt. but when I get back I'll try to find my thread that has the phone # for the guys at iDatalink Maestro.

They're super cool and might be able to help troubleshoot.

    If I forget PM me.
(Or you might be able to search on my threads for the DMX1057)

Did you "Validate PID's" in the Maestro settings?

Okay, so here's a thread from when I was working through this, probably worth a read.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/reading-trans-temps-questions-about-model-year-device.142942/page-2

*Post 52* Has contact info for the guys at Maestro, they were awesome and instrumental in getting mine working.

Turns out the trans temp is (was) not available on all model years, and was not there for my '19

@centex pulled the PID's off his scangauge and sent them to the Maestro guys, they wrote some code voodoo and pushed them out to his specific iDatalink account in a Beta version.

When that worked, I called them and they pushed the same Beta version out to my unit, and Voila!

    20241126_115225.jpg

I think they were going to have the engineers make sure there was no bugs, and then integrate it into the next software update.

But if you're not getting anything on the gauge packs this is acedemic, and sounds more like a connection issue.
