Isn’t it the ECU that actually records the mileage? The odometer is just a display.

Wouldn't that give the correct reading on the cluster then?
Which would make changing the cluster still read the correct mileage?

 

Sorry, I meant incorrect, fixed. Brain is on another planet. Mileage is stored in the cluster. It's just a glorified logging machine.

 

That’s seems to be what it would imply. If it’s stored in both places that would create a discrepancy.

 

Get some frame pics from this. Surely you can sell some parts from whats left over.

OP- if you buy this truck, or a similar truck, I WILL buy lots of it's parts from you. I know that there are others on here who would buy lots of parts too.

 

Why dont you go get it and sell the frame to the OP and you be the one who comes out smelling like a rose after you part it out

This is a super random thread for me to look in the first place and it’s giving me some bad anxiety

 

There is an 06 in Palestine TX with bad motor on marketplace for 2k

 

Mileage is stored in an EPROM on cluster. Changing the mileage is easy with a few basic electronics tools.

 

I most likely have them at work. Doesn’t it cause some kind of error since it doesn’t match what’s stored in the ECU or does it overwrite it? It doesn’t sound like a well thought out anti-tampering feature.

 

And an 06?
How many parts are compatible with your 00?

 

Don’t feel too bad!! I live in Oklahoma but I just took the sellers word that the frame was in incredible condition. Then I read the very first paragraph of “So your thinking about buying….” I couldn’t wait to get it up on a lift and “Thank God”. I scored a really good one.

 

Do our trucks even store the info in the ECU? It may just be whatever the cluster reads.

 

Some vehicles do. I have no idea if ours does that.

As @bfunke mentioned, the actual mileage is stored in the combination meter(gauge cluster). Veh speed signal is inputed into the cluster.

00-04 Tundras use the transmission analog speed signal(VSS).

05-06 (vvti and 5 speed trans) Tundras use avg of wheel speed sent to ABS module which is translated into a digital signal for input to cluster.

The 8 prong eeprom is contained on the CCA module below....from my 04 DC LTD.
