In the current version of the Tech12Volts setup, the factory amp remains and the new amp is after it? No DSR-1 required?

Partially correct. Yes the Factory Amp does remain and no additional DSP is needed since the new amp has one built in.
Keep in mind that 2 of the 3 oem connectors are plugged into the new amp. 1 of the 3 oem connectors is plugged into the factory amp. There are 2 connectors that go from the new amp to the factory amp. So technically, I believe the new amp is now installed before the signal gets to the Factory amp.

Also, I cant believe I waited this long to get this amp! I am very impressed how this little amp brings the factory system (along with the upgraded Sub / Enclosure) to life.

Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense now. Definitely giving myself analysis paralysis with all these options and info.

    What options are you weighing?
I think for the money, you will have a hard time finding something better than what James Randy Taylor has available.

Yes that's looking like the right move. I'm just trying to understand the function. So in that setup, the 8 channels are 2 dash and 4 doors, and then 7/8 are bridged for the sub(s)?

I don't think 7/8 are bridged, but what ever he does powers the sub very well.

Channels 7 & 8 are separate. One goes to the sub and the other goes to the center dash speaker. I don't think the center dash speaker does much, so bridging it for the sub may make sense if it can be done.

Does anyone know what the option "+ sub woofer and box" gets you when ordering the amp? There are no details on that add on.

As far as I know, You get a custom box that has been fiber glassed on the inside and a JBL or Infinity shallow 10" sub.
I know that The Taylor Audio website is a work in progress but his other is tech12volts which has more info. (see link below)

    No Problem.
I believe you can order from either site but not 100% sure. I know I ordered the amp from Taylor Audio. I did not get a receipt like I was supposed to, but James emailed a copy for my records.
Compare prices on both sites too (including shipping)
Its been a while, but i thought there was some small differences in price from one site to the other.
Stop being like me and procrastinating, Just order it. Trust me, you will not regret it.

    What they ^^^ said...

You get a 'loaded' subwoofer box, which means a subwoofer box properly size and tuned for your vehicle w/a single subwoofer that is idealy paired w/the amp and its settings

How did the install go? did you tweak any settings in the amp? I currently have my external bass knob set at about 1/2 and my oem head unit settings about half of a tick above. From reading earlier posts, I thought we would lose the ability to fade front to rear with this amp added, but I tried it the other dat and have that feature still.

Just plug and play for me. Most of my listening is XM, I adjust the base knob as needed when changing from one genre of music to another. I am happy with the results. Install was easier than expected ! When does that ever happen ?

I just ordered a sub last month. I didn't contact him first but he quickly responded to my order with truck specifics, colors, etc.

Aright, I've got that amp from Taylor's on order. I'm back and forth on what to do about subs. Is anyone using channels 7&8 for subs out of that JBL 4086? Is it adequate? I can't imagine 40W to a 10" sub is going to be very effective.

I have a Punch monoblock amp that I could utilize for this, and if I understand correctly the 4086 can be set up to feed those channels 7&8 out to another amplifier. James alerted me that to free up channel 7, you lose the center channel. I think I'm willing to do that.

Anyone talk me into or out of running that second amp just for the subs? I'd get 300W RMS mono @2ohms to a ported box with two 10s if I go that route.

Did you order do you have an aftermarket sub/enclosure?
If you have one or ordered the sub & Enclosure from Taylor's Audio, then I suggest you install the amp and the sub/enclosure and try it before adding anything else.
I am not 100% sure how he did it, but the using this combo increases the bass substantially. He will program the amp based on the Tundra's oem speakers so they get the best sound without distortion or blowing them.
I am very satisfied with the overall sound (Including the bass) and have not tweaked any of the settings in the amp.
I know its hard to believe that the bass would be improved with the small wattage increase and single 10" sub, but I assure you that it sounds great in my opinion.

I have a dual 10" ported box with 4ohm woofers (200w RMS). I like your idea. I will have him set it up with channels 7&8 being the subs and I can always reconfigure it later if needed. I'm not looking to shake the neighborhood here, just get a full sound.

You may need to wire the subs so they are 2ohm if possible. The Sub he sells is switchable from 2 to 4 ohm.

Keep us posted on when you get your amp, Install it and what you think of it. As I mentioned above, you may need to wire your subs for 2 ohm if they can handle it. The factory sub is 2 ohm and James also notes that the new sub should be set to 2 ohms (even with using the new amp)
I am not sure how it would sound if you have them at 4 ohm.
