Diamondback Tonneau Cover

LOL, my DB Cover makes a freakin racket with all the latches rattling and everytime over a speed bump with rear wheels, the whole system squeaks

 

Sounds like the latches and lock rods need to be tightened up so the gaskets are compressed. That will keep the cover from bouncing around over bumps.

You might want to retorque the clamps as well as they can loosen.

I have had a DB cover on 4 vehicles and never had squeaking and rattling.

My current setup has my cover over a 1 ton suspension with 80 psi in the tires. It doesn't squeak over bumps.

 

I found a used Diamondback SE cover for $1000 in Boston so I drove over from Vermont last weekend. Here are the two pictures from the Marketplace ad.

My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree on the way home as the winter slush kept blocking all the front sensors.


It will be a couple of months before it's warm enough out for me to get it mounted but I'm excited.

Thanks for the reminder to check the clamps. They were very loose and needed to be tightened. However, all the latches still ratle no matter how I adjust them. Only hear it if I have the rear window down.

 

Does anyone have experience with the KB Voodoo or TRUKD racks that are supposed to work with Diamond back covers? They mount to the bed rail, under the cover, and allow the cover to open even while racks are loaded.
I'm wondering if they are decent quality, worth the price, if the companies are decent.

Another rack option is the Yakima base camp rails that install directly onto the cover. And then you can add the overhaul he rack

 

The problem with mounting to the cover is the cover can't be opened if anything is on the racks. I'd really like to be able to open the cover while the racks are loaded

 

understood; just seeing if that was an option for you. I researched a lot before deciding to go that route. I have never had to open the cover even with rack loaded. Can access just by dropping the tailgate

 

I could probably make do, and may go that route if it seems to be the best rack, but it would be much handier for me if the cover could open.

 

My Diamondback HD cover is scheduled to arrive this afternoon. At the moment I'm preparing for the shim installation by preemptively removing the plastic bed rail caps, but I'm having a difficult time. I recognize that the first time attempting this is terrifying and therefore I'm being more tentative than is necessary. However, I'm finding it challenging to access the grommets (or whatever you call them). The bed cleat-and-rails aren't exactly helping.

Are there any additional tips or links to posts or external resources that might prove helpful?

Edit: Actually, I’m finding that applying a reasonable amount of brute force in the vertical direction is providing me with a decent result.

 

I broke one or two when I did it. I ended up using a pry bar to gently lift and had a long pair of needle nose pliers I used to grip and squeeze the grommets to release. Make sure you reshape them before you try to reinstall

 

What length Yakima HD bars are everyone using with the skyline feet? I originally bought 60 inch bars and using the adapter they seem too narrow and don’t look like they fit right.

Sorry to Bump an old post here but I have a Diamondback Switchback in smooth. This is the best picture I have of it but I can take more tomorrow. If anyone has any questions I'm open to answer any. Based on the other questions you cannot mount racks on top as it folds on itself and the hinges are made with just enough clearance so that it lays perfectly. I don't have things to strap on top and my use is typically 90% tonneau on but the other 10% is sometimes folding it forward and strapping it (it comes with cam buckle straps designed for this). It's only a few clamps with a 9/16 to remove it when I need full use of the bed. My only issue I've run into is when it's below freezing (like really below freezing) with there being no external locks or mechanisms the only way in is through the tailgate and the back portion of the cover weather stripping has frozen to the top of the tailgate.

 

Probably been asked, can't find in a search. Will a 15-21 Tundra Diamondback HD work on a 2025? Found one on marketplace local to me at a fair deal. Dimensionally from the website it looks like it will, but wanted to ask the braintrust.......Thanks!

 

Can anyone tell me if the underside of the DB SE extends below the bedrails which I measure at 20"? About to pull the trigger on one but I'm wondering if my kayak will fit under the cover and the upsweep of the bow of the boat really needs 20" at the cab side. Thanks for any measurements.

 

Not sure if this info will still help you, but yes it will fit.

I had a Diamondback SE Cover on my 2019 Crewmax and I just test fitted & sold it to someone with a 2023/24 (newer model) Crewmax 5.5' Bed. The dimensions are similar enough to provide full coverage, but you will need to make adjustments with the clamps and locking rails to fit the exact dimensions of the bed and whether or not someone has a bed rail.

The cover on mine was bought specifically for a 2.5 Gen Crewmax, but I'm absolutely sure it will fit any Crewmax 5.5' bed (2007-Current).

Hope this helps anyone else that's shopping around.

 

I have the DiamondBack SE on my 2023 Tundra. There are two items that hang below the top:
- Shock and related support - 20.5" from the bed floor (see photo).
- Lock cross bar - 19" from bed floor on the right side, which gains height towards the centre of the box (it's above the storage box towards the cab).

Thanks for the help! There's a ton of them on marketplace for everything else, but haven't seen very many for the Tundra, and even fewer (none) for the 3rd gen.

 

Installed an HD with low profile cab/rear glass guard and cross bin. Love these things.

I've searched both the forum and the internet for an hour and haven't found the info, but sorry in advance if it's already out there somewhere.

Can someone please respond with the length and width of their diamondback cover, specifically for a Double Cab 2.5 (2014 to 2021...).
I believe it's square, but if it tapers, please send:
- Front width
- Rear width
- Length

My SE arrived in just 11 days from initial order. Met shipper at a local parking lot so he wouldn’t have to negotiate my dead end street.
Install took 2:15hr with help for final adjustments from a neighbor.
The need to install shims under the rail cover was a bit of a curve and added to the time. It went on easy from there with the most time spent moving it around to get positioned right and setting lock tension.
She’s a bit tight right now but I understand the gaskets will compress in time.
We both kept commenting what an ingenious design it is. Kudos to the engineers. I think I’m gonna like it.

 

I have the same problem. Had it two years now and no matter what I do it makes a racket. Seems like the tailgate side handle makes the most noise. I’d prefer a cap and thought I’d give this a go to be able to use my back window but I think it’s gonna have to go and get a cap back. I can’t put the window down because I can’t handle the noise it makes lol.

 

I hate to hear this. I missed this potential problem in reading through all the reviews.That would drive me nuts so hope it doesn't show up with mine. Have you contacted DB about it?

 

I should have updated. I did reach out to diamondback on Friday. Explained to them my issue and the guy I spoke to offered some tips which helped with some of the noise but still the majority seemed to be the rear handle lock mechanism. He said he would send me a new lock set at no charge to me if I was willing to try and change them. I’m thinking just adding the spring on the rear lock may help as the lock near the cab has it and it makes much less noise!
