Someone posted about getting tranny fluid changed. I read that with the sealed trannies you have to go to a dealer because they are the only ones with toyota specific trannie fluid. Is this true? Bought mine with 213,000 miles on it in July. Coming back from my last road trip i noticed it was shifting funny with the cruise control on. Mainly on hills or coming off hills. Anyone else have problems and cures for this? I bought this truck to pull my light weight 5th wheel with. I don't need to get stranded out somewhere like that. I'm a retiree, and i can't work on this truck. It now has 223,000 miles on it. I traveled a lot this summer. Until this issue, she's been perfect and i love this truck!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Qualified transmission shops can take better care of your tranny than stealerships. The stealership solution to just about any transmission related issue is replacement. A transmission shop can repair and maintain what the stealership won't touch. I am fortunate to have such a qualified transmission shop near me and have mine serviced every 60k miles, and I don't tow very often.

And are you sure your 2012 Tundra has a V6? I thought the last V6's (until the 3rd Gens) were pre-2007.

I'm positive it has a V6. That was one of the requirements to getting it. Thanks for the advice about the "stealerships". I am not too happy about the one I bought it from, and wont be returning there for anything. There are better dealerships. But I love my truck. I've had a couple older yotas, the first being a 95 T100. I loved that truck. It had 324,000 miles on it when i got it. I drove it for another 60,000 miles before turning It over to my son. He beat hell out of it for another 30,000 miles before the rear driveshaft broke off at the yoke and he couldn't find a replacement. HE traded that one for an audi Quattro. I ended up giving my 94 hilux to him too, but it had a bad frame and he managed to pull it apart 4 days later. I finally got my tundra in August last year. The best most rust free truck I've ever known. I came down to texas from Michigan, but bought my tundra in oklahoma.

Thanks! I stand corrected, though I had only an old man's memory as my information source!

Do you have service history on the truck? Most do a drain and fill every 60-100k. If it's never been done, don't go with a flush, just a fluid exchange, known as a drain and refill. Even though these are 'sealed' units, it's still best to have the fluid swapped. Especially so if you tow.
