Mystery rear end troubles

Hey everyone, I have a 2005 double cab RWD with an issue I cannot seem to figure out. I’ve taken it to 2 mechanics and spent almost $3k and can’t seem to figure out what it is.

My rear wheel bearings blew shortly after buying this truck (2 months ago), and the right one failed catastrophically- the bearing basically fell off when they removed the tire. Every time I’ve picked it up from the shop (3 times now) my right rear brake overheats and my truck vibrates hard enough that I have to pull over after about 40-50 miles.

First shop did the bearings wrong, so I assumed a more experienced shop would be able to handle it without a problem. I just picked it up from shop # 2, drove 50 miles home and my right rear brake is still overheating & the rear end smells burnt as soon as I walk to the bed. Shop #2, which is fairly experienced and well-reviewed, just did both my rear bearings, seals, tone rings, brake shoes & brake shoe hardware, and I still can’t drive it safely. I just want to get this thing to a point where I can sell it, and I don’t know how to do that anymore.

If anyone has experienced this before & knows what’s going on I would really appreciate some guidance.

 

Yes, there are several threads on the forum about what an absolute FPITA the rear bearings are on these trucks. Tolerances are something most shops can't seem to understand. There are quite a few writeups and videos members have shared and linked on the forum. It's one the things I probably should add in the community megathread, where we keep critical info and common issues with the trucks documented.

 

Where are you located? I know a shop in the Phoenix area with the knowledge required.

 

Maybe donor axle and move on?

 

Just has to stick with another DC axle. Doesn’t Dorman make a pre-pressed axle for our trucks that’s a direct bolt-in? I swore someone said this recently, and it made me wonder why everyone doesn’t just go this route when you consider the $$ involved.

 

What is the name of the shop, and where are they located? For my future reference. Thanks!
