Question for you guys.
Where do you have your TCC lockup set for 4th gear? And did you change 5th and 6th as well, or leave those stock tables alone?
1800 apply and 1300 released for all tables? and all gears- ie 4 5 6? no 3
or should I emulate the cruise tables for 4th TCC lock up and release?

 

I'm locking in 4-6, my values aren't 1800/1300, but rather 2 series of 5% reduction of values. I have cruise table the same, but left tow/haul alone.

 

2 series of 5% reduction from cruise table values? ie- requiring 5% less throttle position to enable lock up - and effectively disable as well?
And you left stock tow haul table alone, meaning it still does NOT lock up in 4th?
My only tables that lock up 4th (stock settings) are normal hot, tow haul hot, cruise. and those are 2300 apply, 2100 release.

 

I ran with 4-6 lockup with 1800-1500. I now run the 4th cruise table with the lower release at 1500 instead of 1300. I lowered 5/6 by 200 lock/unlock rpm in most tables. No 3rd lockup...haven't decided which is better.
I lowered all hot rpm values to lockup to shed heat. Tow/haul has 4th lockup.

 

you say 'ran' does that mean you no longer run it like that?
everything runs well as-is, but want to make any changes that I can if it's going to be better for the setup in the long run, especially towing APR to NOV.

 

I just switch from a straight across lockup to a varied one like cruise etc. Just to see what I like better.

 

The motor was delivered & they broke the VVTI solenoids, best I can find there is one for all 4, anyone know if that is right?

I don't see exhaust & intake differences.

 

Shitty!! Can you get a nice discount on the engine because of that? And just re-use your solenoids from old engine?

 

The shop owner called & told me, the waterpump also sounds bad, I said they said it was supposed to be 70k mile & A condition, he was like they always say that move on.

It was already cheap at 4k so not much room to complain, I am going to verify the vin Sunday when I go to see it (& get the SC to do the maintenance on it/put the heat deflector/Sniv pulley) They are closed Saturday, open Sunday)

I ordered the 2 VVTI solenoids & waterpump, hopefully they are in stock, parts was closed when I called at 6:07 but they open ay 7am.

 

I recall seeing folks swap VVTI connectors when reassembling things, meaning they are the same connector. So hopefully all the same solenoid?

In past experience with putting used motors in other vehicles, I almost always swap the water pump as a preventative measure. Some parts sellers actually require it for warranty claims - timing belts, too, if it’s a vehicle with a serviceable belt. Chains like our 5.7 are excluded.

 

I ordered the 2 solenoids, waterpump & rear main seal.

Picked up 75% of the parts, missing VVTI solenoids, knock sensors, one hose, one gallon of Toy red coolant, alternator, & starter (out for delivery)

Hard to believe this is 90% of 1100+ in parts, freaking hoses are over 300.

Hoping to get the SC from the shop today. Can I put this on assembled or do I need to press the hub on & then assemble it?

 

Press hub on, then bolt the pulley. I've never tried to install it assembled, not to say it's not possible but seems like unnecessary risk to the pulley.

 

If you have the whole blower out, I personally unbolt the snout and then if you have a press it's a walk in the park to install the hub. Pulling the stock pulley is always a bitch though in my experience.

 

The entire SC will be on my bench, I am taking the snout off to do the ZZP coupler & r&r the oil (Jon B. kit coming tomorrow) I have the eBay 2.3 on there now, I removed the original pulley before install because I had a dyno appointment and yours had not come yet about 2 years ago.

I don't have a press, I used the tool the eBay pulley came with & plan on using it again.

That's an infinitely better press on tool than URD sells. I've broken two URD tools...

 

Boo hoo, he broke his swivel & could not get the rear fasteners off. It was supposed to come yesterday but didn't. He is going to try to get one at a parts store.

He got it out for me!

I don't know where they got it, searching the vin found it in several sites. He got most of that from me, I paid 4k for the motor.

Idk about that site but gotta remember to tack on buyers fees, taxes, delivery. My $5800 winning bid turned into $7100 after getting it to my house. Only $75 of that was towing.

 

Snout is off. I can only get a small amount of oil out, is there another way to get it outside turning the SC on it's back?

The coupler looks ok, no?

Is there anything else I need to do while it's out?

Were the ones made in '17 good?

 

2017 was a good year for Maggy...the "TRD" versions were the main versions of need, I thought...

 

My understanding is it takes EXACTLY 205ML of only Eaton/magnuson branded oil no more no less. I’d imagine you want to get every drop out and put that exact amount in. It’s not a fill to the hole kind of scenario.

I ordered the Jon Bond kit (Thanks, MDL) out for delivery today. I read it's the exact amount needed, so I am trying to get every drop out. It's standing on its side on an oil dump pan, dripping.

that's what I used when i changed the oil on the Taco s/c. Careful with that stuff, it smells bad. If that's the oil I'm remembering

 

Should I put the rest on the snout in one of these configurations? (Or other)
