Will a 2004 instrument cluster fit a 2005? If not, can the bulbs in the 2005 be replaced with LEDs even though they are soldered?

    Yes and no.

Not all FGT gauge clusters are interchangeable
. You will need to verify that you are buying the correct part number to ensure that it communicate with the ECM.
The part number can be found on the left side of the cluster. See pic for example.

Thanks, Black Mamba. Very good information. Even better information in John 3:30.

tl;dr - 2000-2004 cluster is not really usable in 2005-2006. Not only are they different # speeds in the transmission, the way some gauges like speed are fed (for one example) diff’t. Only option to change colors and keep cluster intact is with a soldering iron, solder wick, and new surface mount LEDs, installed in correct orientation. Pinouts in the rear don’t match up between different drivetrains as well, at least in earlier years.
