What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Kids?
I got a teething 2 year old. He developed this routine of waking up at 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30. Last night was the first in 8 days that my wife and I didn't have to go into his room. Shit is tough on little or no sleep.

 

No kids, I work nights.
My body and brain are rebelling.

 

You know what also sucks? When they're able to talk back to you finally

Man, we got all excited when the first one started sleeping thru the night. It was awesome. We were tired.

Then we got excited when they rolled over, and started crawling. It was awesome. Then we realized you can't set them down somewhere and lay down for a minute without them disappearing and potentially doing something stupid, like eating a pile of Legos. It was tiring to keep up with them.
(Neither kid ate Legos, thankfully, nor anything stupid like button/wafer batteries, which can easily kill a kid when they short against their guts)

Then we got excited when they started walking, again awesome, except now they can run away from you, run into traffic, and the stress of having to watch them like a hawk in public places. It was exhausting.

Oh, man, first words. Which you're so stoked about because they can finally tell you what's wrong ... but is also followed by your kid potentially never shutting up, asking the most bizarre questions, and saying super embarassing things to people!

There were other milestones. Like, we were so excited when they started eating solid foods, but on the flipside, I wasn't aware of the gaggingly stinky solid shits that would follow, the accidents that would happen in public, and the cleanup-fest that follows when they sneak one in there but are too busy playing to want to tell you.

When they finally get the potty training thing! And then a couple days/weeks/months later think they're sooooo independent they're welcome to talk back to you.

When they finally go off to school, and start getting behavioral cues from other kids - which is totally normal and part of growing up they desperately need - and some of those things they do/say/repeat get on your last nerve, and you've got to retrain them "how to act right".

tl;dr - it may suck now, but take lots of videos and savor the moment. You'll hopefully relish in it later, when they're hitting those double-digits, becoming their "own" person, which honestly, you may or may not be so excited about. More than anything, spend all the time you can with them, exploring. It's what ultimately fosters love and respect that'll firmly plant your foot in the door for them to heed your words later when they need 'adjustments'.

 

That's a different challenge. Brutal.

 

Both fortunately and unfortunately; I have the perspective of prioritizing my son and our family. Our son was extremely sick last year and we didn't know if he was going to reach age 10. Luckily he's doing really well now with no signs of long-term problems or recurrence of the disease. So it's exhausting when we have a rough week of little sleep, but also not that hard in comparison to last year.
He's close to walking (a little behind because it's hard to learn to crawl, walk, etc in hospitals) but can definitely already talk back. No words needed. I was feeding him dinner and asking him if he wanted more. He took the spoon out of my hand reached out to the side and dropped it, and with totally straight face stuck out his tongue and went THPBBBTTTTT!
It's pretty amazing seeing the determination when he is working towards something and trying new things.

Otherwise I replaced the backup lights with the hot lil OSRAM units and and got an OTT tune...

Yes the truck has temp and compass and skylight. Heated mirrors, JBL. But it's an SR5 with fabric. No VSC!

 

I still need to wire the mirror you sent me. I have the harness. I just been lazy lol. It's only been a few years... I hate wiring.

 

I definitely do too, it's why it never got installed. I have a brand new fancy pants edgeless Gentex with Homelink 5, compass, and I think temperature in my shop, I got it for $100 or something on fleaBay I haven't wired up yet. It's nearly identical to what's in our 2020 Highlander. But like you, I freaking hate wiring!

 

Today I returned the T-Case to the junkyard but only went home with a few parts. But one involves wiring!!!

 

Ah, the infamous fog light switch! Nice! You know how to get that done, right? Should be plug and play on the switch, plug and play on the bulbs, add a relay, maybe add a fuse?

Don't ditch the dimmer switch either, those can burn out also.

 

Bumper caps, tow hook but I don’t know there was a heated mirror switch. Mine come on automatically with the rear defrost and my fogs are on the left stalk.

 

It's an RC/AC vs. DC thing.

AC/RC has mirror defrost button thru the whole year range in that location. Where the fog light button exists, that's where the rear slider window button lives on the either '03+ or '04+. Crossover year for fogs moving to the stalk is something we talked about recently but I don't remember the specifics.

The DC, however, has a different panel there entirely, I believe. And your slider is rectangular where we have the oval slider/fog button on AC/RC.

 

All plug n play. No fuse, just a relay. BTW, that dimmer switch called a light control rheostat is $200 brand new. That’s like having gold there.

 

That reminds me I still have a fog light switch to install one of these days. I guess I should wait til I find a decent OG front bumper and buy the aux light valence I posted last night. Going to be cool having the extra lighting on the T3 when that time comes. Plus it'll give it some stylish individuality.

 

My 06 limited AC has the heated mirror switch and electric slider window. But no rear defrost.

 

My 03 has fogs on the stalk. But no heated mirrors.

 

I love wiring, any kind of wiring

 

I’ve read how to do it several times on this forum, but that kind of information doesn’t stick with me unless I can actually look at the thing. I’m going to connect it to my Lightbar with its own power supply-wish me luck. I always wanted a second hook in case I went into a ditch on the side opposite of the one I have, or just pulling logs out of the road with one more hook. There were no wood grain center bezels with VSC there, but I saw 2 utilize the rectangle. I was tempted to keep it just to have one more space filled and wire a little flashing light but no alarm or remote start.

 

I've got ditch lights and an auto dim/compass mirror that need wiring, plus an LED pod that I need to address. I think it's a bad ground. You're more than welcome to help

I did end up putting on a new belt last weekend. I did NOT try starting it without a belt (yet). Yes I know that would have been a good time to do it while changing the belt... I only had about an hour of daylight to get the belt changed last Sunday afternoon. Went fishing that day instead of wrenching, priorities... Haven't had any free time since then. I will explore some more this weekend, including starting it with belt off HB.

2002 AC LTD 4x4 4.7L
Changed the engine oil and filter myself for the first time after running Seafoam in the crankcase for about 400 miles. Went to remove the drain plug AND IT WAS SO LOOSE THAT I DID IT WITH NO TOOLS! Oil had been leaking past the plug and getting on the undercarriage. I replaced the drain plug gasket and went to torque it down, but couldn't bring myself to put 29 lb-ft on the plug. Is that one of those known misprints in the service manual or is 29 lb-ft the real value?
