might be easier to just 3d print something that attaches to the intake on the filter and sticks down more instead of lowering the whole filter

Yeah, I considered the 3D print method, but wasn't sure about durability of the materials in ATF, there's probably something out there that'll work though. But you really just need a aluminum tube turned down on one end and opened up on the other end, some spacers and bolts and you're in business.

Wait, no can log the transmission? Lol, oh man.

Yes, a longer pick up. Lowering the entire filter is the best option as the large flat area keeps oil under the sump i… it can be easily accomplished with some custom spacers, an additional O ring, and longer bolts. A longer pick up tube is a good second option.

Why cant you just add more fluid?

A cheap bore scope will show you the correct level with a standard pan. install new pan and and view the level and adjust it where its the same as the original pan.

    Am I missing something?

FWIW, I never got worked up checking the fluid level when the temp was 100-115*. Fill it untill the stand pipe weeps then add a half Qt after the plug is inserted.

The deep pans have the proper height on the overflow port, so adjusting the level is just like stock.

We are looking at the pump intake on the filter no longer being at the bottom of the pan due to the increased depth. This is less than ideal for eliminating air that could enter the intake.

John from IPT recommends adding a quart over full as well.

The only reason to overfill is to make sure the pump intake doesn’t have the flow from the pan/reservoir interrupted.

He mentioned that to me a while back. After the trickle at 100deg. Throw a quart in and call it good. No issues for the past couple years. I mention it here and there but some don't want to deviate from Toyota specs...

4+ years ago, supercharger had a 2.35" URD pulley and stock otherwise. Was at sea level on the beach, so probably like 560ish horsepower from the engine? Trans had 240k on it. I was absolutely letting it chew in the sand since I had the power so didn't want to air down, lots of shifting and floored in 1st and 2nd. Wasn't monitoring trans temps. They got high, but not high enough to trigger the light. Started acting weird and pulled out of the sand and that was the end. I limped it home probably 750 miles since I had been south of San Felipe Mexico. Was throwing all sorts of solenoid codes, 5th and 6th were nearly non existent. Getting going was painful at best. Shifting was horrible. Had to limit it to 4th the whole drive back. I forget if/how much I had changed the trans fluid at the time, probably once if at all. Was running the stock TRD tune on the truck which modifies line pressures and stuff.

@reywcms, so you mentioned going the OEM route and doing stuff to the trans before it goes in it seems. I was wondering what the terms of the warranty are on the reman unit?

    Round 2... Transmission Update #1
Truck got towed back to Level10. There are some strange issues that the tune is not able to compensate for... so it's got to be a hardware issue.
Something failed in the rebuild... or more likely was never correct (aka faulty item)
It was picked up yesterday and they drove it today confirming that the solenoids are acting very strange. Pulling trans today and doing another rebuild. Will be inspecting everything. Cutting open the TC and seeing how it looks. ETC
All on their dime of course.

The truck still drove, but was slipping badly with TC codes and Solenoid codes left and right. Sounds like faulty parts from Toyota to me, but I'm no transmission expert...yet.

I did touch base with HP Tuners, Tony Gonyon. He has my tune that @snivilous got perfect, and a few versions of the 'optimum torque trans' table. He is sharing with his engineers and will come up with a table that is ideal for my truck. I'll share once I get it back. Eager to see what they do to the table knowing the approx power based on mods. Could open the doors for those of us without the trans tables in the tune file.

I havnt reviewed the warranty but thinking more of what to add or update it’ll most likely only be the deep pan and some coolers. With the main focus to get an 8speed to work that @Jowett spoke about in another thread. Or the ZF8 speed

This has to be frustrating. Lucky for you Level10 is near by. I couldn't imagine having those issues from where I live. Seeing post like this keep me form beating up on my truck and my days of big mods are over. I was lucky back then that the 4L60/70/80Es were very easy to work on. Anyone could least tear it down and do a simple rebuild. Not so much for these newer, more complicated trans. Cant imagine the new tundra 10 speed that has its own oil pump in the trans.
Hope they get you squared away soon.

Yeah it's not ideal, thats for sure. But I'm glad they're standing by their work/warranty and taking care of it. Ready to have the truck back and running perfectly so I can drop the questionable speedmaster LSD in there and mix things up again lol

Well shit! Having just the three transmission tables, imo are killing us. Wish we had the TRD tables with shift pressures, especially line pressure and solenoids curves, torque management reductions for upshift/downshift. Hopefully HP can help us out! I'm not to confident on new transmission and current tables. Would be nice to upgrade VB and have ability to fine tune. Heres a side by side of the two for those who don't know, 5 vs 3 tables

Yes sir, especially the shift pressures.....believe not having ability to tune pressures here and reducing torque on shifts are smoking clutches but idk:notsure:

Or if all else fails manual valve body 4L80e lol. I'm more annoyed overall for the lack of support for the tundra platform.
