Absolutely love the Detroit Truetrac for daily driving and dirt trails. I had one in my Tacoma and I can't wait to get one in my Tundra.

Yeah, I'm going to donate it to one of my Texas 1GT bros. It's got 350k miles on it. He's rebuilding his A340E trans anyways, so I told em he might as well rebuild this LSD and get some 4.30 gears, because he's got a 2wd 3.4L with 4.10's and open diff.

I read that if one tire is in the air that the TrueTrac won't work. That's never been an issue on the trails?

Ooooh. Does he want an upgrade spring for it? I have 3 or 4 laying around from when I rebuilt the one I sent to @metalpete.

If you lift a tire just lightly apply your brakes.

It happened to me once and I applied the emergency brake and I put my foot down on the brake while I gave it some gas and it pushed me right out. I think there's a few YouTube videos about it. But honestly this thing just keeps you moving for the most part. I find myself in loose gravel or sand more often than I get a tire up in the air. It's amazing in those situations.

That’s way more true of a clutch based unit. The TT is awesome, You’re the only one I’ve ever seen that doesn’t like it.

Yeah because it's basically an open diff that gives power to the tire with most traction when one slips, but I want my LSD to give traction to both tires when one slips.

While we're on the subject... Is there a definitive way to see if my trd off-road clutch packs are worn? I'm at 196k miles. I've been in a few sticky situations in deep sand and the truck just kept moving.

Sounds like you need a locker honestly. I’ll never buy another clutch based setup again. I swapped my old ranger from a 3.55 open to 3.73 Eaton (clutch) posi. Once you lift a wheel with a clutch based unit you’re screwed. The TT will still spin both and with some brake pressure you can get the wheel with traction to bite. A locker is best for that type of scenario but definitely not as user friendly for street driving.

Nah my 4x4 has an e-locker. It's great for that truck's needs.

But my 2wd street queen had the OEM LSD and now has the TrueTrac. I just should've bought the right LSD for me. I thought I did tons of research, but somehow missed the fact the TT will never lock both wheels and that's just not what I wanted.
