What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Nope, manual 4WD only but I have the best snow tires I have ever had in 68 years of driving - Sumitomo Ice Edge. (also have traction control and stability control disabled). I once pulled a loaded UPS truck that was stuck on the ice off the ice onto clear road. He didn't believe the 4Runner could do it. My neighbor has a very long uphill driveway. His Ford 4WD w/plow can't make it up the driveway so he calls me and I drive right up the hill, turn around, and plow the driveway open going downhill. She is one amazing vehicle!

 

they are great rigs, my tundra with limited slip, new blizzaks and gravel bags in back and in 4wd does really well. My 2000 4runner ( highlander version, factory lift) with rear locker ( with gray wire mod) , j shift transfer case, tundra brake up grade and new blizzaks is my daily driver. Ive had several 3rd gen 4runners and on a 2001 I had I also disconnected traction and stability control...poor design.....kills power to engine if wheels are slipping.
A lot of people have plows on front up here, one neighbor with a taco with plow said its important to have airbags disconnected as you hit something hard it can trigger the airbags, dont know how true that is for toyota,,but another friend with a ford f250 and plow has his airbags disconnected during plow season

Hahaha, yeah you don't need air up here much, maybe a week or three get hot. This first snow is super late this year too. NOT complaining!

 

Orderded soem parts. Replacing fender liners b/c they got eaten thru at the pinch weld while running the Wildpeaks in 285/70r17. And back slider plastic cover has been office, previous owner left it in the glovebox, wouldn't install b/c they broke the tab. And fender liner inserts because two on each mudflap are stripped from swapping them on/off so much while battling thru rubbing.

Pro tip:

You can plug those fender holes with this style of push-pin. Not sure if this specific one will fit your hole, but you get the idea. I got similar for my our Highlander to plug the license plast holes in the front bumper, paint-matched so they blend right in.

I'm always confused by the parts Toyota still makes vs discontinues. How many people are buying fender liners for our trucks? Can't imagine very many. And they stopped making critical brake parts. Makes no sense.

 

Is “soem” the new abbreviation for “some OEM”? I really need to catch up on my internet shorthand.

 

I highly suspect it's an item that stayed in-demand at body shops for a long time due to fender benders ruining the liners and aprons, and with the tooling involved to make that unique shape, they wanted to continue selling for as long as possible.

I wouldn't doubt if it eventually becomes unobtanium also, once demand drops and they whittle down stock. There are some things I expect to eventually come back, like reman OEM axles. At least one more burst of 'em. Other things, like colored interior parts, I suspect we'll have access to the parts, but they'll all be beige so guys with charcoal interiors like me are screwed.

By the way, dropping this here to save folks some digging. If anyone RC / AC ever needs to know part numbers for their inner fender liners,

53876-0C030 ==> Fender Liner, Left. NON-double cab, plastic bumper.
53875-0C030 ==> Fender Liner, Right. NON-double cab, plastic bumper.
53876-0C010 ==> Fender Liner, Left. NON-double cab, steel bumper.
53875-0C010 ==> Fender Liner, Right. NON-double cab, steel bumper.

The plastic receivers that let you screw the mud flaps and inner finder liners into the body are 90189-06214. They're used in a shitload of other places on the truck too.

No clue what the hell the DC part number is.

 

This reminds me of another example. I need a new seat belt buckle but they don't make my color anymore. I think someone determined they only have tan available. I wonder how weird a tan buckle would look in my gray interior.

 

Talk about fender liners...
Does anyone know exact part # for this for '06 AC? When my mechanic took it off to weld frame re-inforcement due to rust, that part just broke apart. I could not get exact part, looks like most Amazon after market ones are designed for '07+.

 

They make fender liner material like that you can buy, and cut your own shape out of.

I'd suggest changing both buckles to tan. It would be 'curious' but wouldn't seem as 'off' as only the one. If I saw only one replaced in a used truck I would assume it was replaced as part of a hard accident repair.

The fender liner is different between steel front bumper and the plastic Boeing 747 bumper cover, so possibly there is going to be a parts breakdown for each one of those too.

 

I do not know. These were the ones shifty posted, his truck is an 06... and now that I'm thinking about it, not sure if they are (probably not) the same for my 00.

 

I would consider just what KNABORES said. ARK also makes them and they've been used by quite a few members on the forum.

As weird as a gray one would look with my tan interior. In all seriousness, though, due to plastic being porous, you may successfully apply dye with a cotton ball. Maybe just apply a coat at a time until the color is close to your gray. Probably look better than tan.

Yep, that's my handywork. @JakeJake was planning on doing something with it.

 

First off, I had a typo in my numbers, I had "front" twice on the left. I fixed it just now.

Notice in my part numbers, I include a different part number on the FRONT ones specifically. The rears are the same on all years, the fronts are different based on your bumper. If you have steel bumpers, you need the 00-03 part number ending "0c010". Else, use the "0c030" part number.

 

Replaced my nasty window trim today with the trail runner customs kit. Pretty easy and looks much better.

 

• Removed the air bags (ride is better now)
• Removed Swaybar, possibly will put back, I'll at least wait for front suspension changes and extended link arms
• Changed interior lights to LED
• Wire wheeled surface rust on welds
• Fluid filmed the inside of the frame rails.and the areas between and at two layers of steel as much as possible. Incl inside boxes sections and crossmember interfaces.
• Found a POR 15 kit for said surface rust.
• Replaced headlights with CAPA ones and installed OSRAM Nightbreakers. Better.
• Washed, clayed, and waxed/ceramic coated.

• Lastly, I messed with the brakes and read a lot of brake threads... Having what I believe to be auto adjusters problems. I wrote up a comment here. Please let me know if there is another thread I should read about the adjuster mechanism, both arm and star adjuster. Cheers.
