Aw, man…i’m so sorry for your loss. Our four legged family members don’t last forever and it’s the worst thing ever when we have to say our last goodbye to them. I’m shedding a tear for you right now. Another new mutt can never replace our old friend, but what they can do is start a new adventure in life with you. You have hundreds of memories with her and she will never be forgotten. Take as much time as you need for a new pooch to search you out. Maybe a week, maybe a year, maybe 20 years from now, but there will definitely be one out there that is seeking you…but you just don’t know which one it is yet.

The argument isn't about whether you should replace the fluid it's about how. Power flush vs multiple drain n fills

 

I feel like there is never a good mileage or time to ever do a power flush. Just seems way too harsh.

It may just be that you've got shit floating around and/or whatever caused that metal to be floating around also caused the solenoid to jam or get buggered up.

I was able to score a pair of the older-style (greaseable) SPC ubj's, p/n 25001, through...O'Reilly.

 

Did SPC stop making greaseable ball joints? Originally they were not greaseable, and failed early. Then SPC started making them greaseable. That was 5-6 years ago at least.

I just realized that you have FJ/TRD wheels on your truck. Do you have spacers installed?

 

Yes, there's a new, sealed style. However, I heard rumor there's a "kit" available to make them greaseable. Not sure if it's true. I emailed SPC tech to verify, but that was just yesterday. Probably won't hear from them til Mon.

 

I just took a peek at their website. They have some pretty trick fab tools. The bender you got is very nice! I bought a new JD2 bender (and 3 or 4 dies) back in 2012. I still have yet to unpack it. The reason being is that i haven’t found a good place to mount it in my shop….doh!

 

IIRC, there are/were 3 diff't UBJ for our SPC uppers (SPC UCA p/n 25485). One greasable/zerked, which most of us probably have currently installed b/c our arms came with them preinstalled, two ungreasable/no zerk. One w/o zerk is discontinued because of some issue with an internal spring that was bothersome for inspection stations (??!).

SPC shows that here in the red box (screencap below). And here is our current replacement option, SPC p/n 35109. The original zerked UBJ was SPC p/n 25001 and may be NLA.

I wanted to stay with the greaseable style for 2 reasons. One, I've had zero issues with mine, and, two, I'm a weirdo who wants to be able to grease/maintain them. Most of the complaints/issues I've seen were maintenance-related (i.e. failure to grease as-required and/or failure to use the correct grease). Since I don't find myself in either category, I want to stay with what has worked for me. Weird, huh?

 

The original zerked UBJ for our UCA is SPC p/n 25001, I'll update my post above with that info. SPC doesn't have them in their catalog any longer, so check for inventory before ordering from online stores.

And it's possible some local stores like (yuck) Oreilly's may carry them.

 

Correct. I referenced that p/n in a prior post. Direct from SPC is pricey, but for someone who just has to have it for whatever reason, it is available from SPC at this time. I saved some coin from O'Reilly, and was surprised when they were available through them. I purchase very little through them, but never have had the ssues you've apparently had. I've had more issues with O'Reilly in-store due to slowness and me knowing more than the employees, but other than that, my experiences have been satisfactory.

 

So doing a full flush through the trans cooler lines isn't the best method over repeated drain and fills where the fluid is never fully swapped? Was planning on a full flush soon.

 

Either is ok and harmless. The issue most have is discomfort with a power-flush. A separate procedure.

Briefly, it's a procedure that uses a machine to pressurize a trans to force fluid and material out. I don't have a comprehensive video available at this moment, sorry.
