Anyone here have parts shipped to you directly from Toyota Japan by the dealer?

The dealer stated free shipping but I don’t know if there’s any hidden custom/carrier fees or taxes imposed onto me from the carrier. Supposedly customs duty tax is free if it’s under $800.

For anyone considering skid plates. SkidRow is a great company. Even if you don't off-road, their front skid is a great alternative to the dinky one Toyota offers.

Well...you aren't supposed to buy from PartSouq. Use it to ID the p/n, the go shopping for it. I always google "toyota xxxxx-xxxxx" and go from there.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NOOOO. The code is P0770 - Shift Solenoid E Malfunction. Did some browsing through the forum, checked my tranny fluid and it was as it should be - pink and not frothy. Fluid levels are as they should be too. Truck has no issues shifting gears when driving and seems to be running exactly as it always has - perfectly. I cleared the code, drove around town for about 10 miles and it didn't come back on. Will see if it appears again - but plz no.

I think that's one of the solenoids that's easily replaceable, no? But also may point to a throttle body/actuator problem? I forget.

I think Fist of the North Star or Vampire Hunter D was the first thing I watched. But Akira was definitely one of the first 3. And I was very unsober when I watched it the first time. And probably the half a dozen to follow. It didn't fully click WTF I'd watched until about the tenth time.

Yea, there is a thread/subforum on here that dives into it I looked over: https://www.tundras.com/threads/p0770-solenoid-e-code.132335/

Going to see if the engine light comes back on - hoping it won't, but expecting it will. If it does, I'll swap out the solenoid. It seems like a simple process, just take the transmission pan off and you can access the solenoid.

@Tundra2 It looks like you had this code pop up and never fixed anything. That still the case? And your first gen still running dandy?

Yup, I remember that. @FiatRunner which solenoids was it you had replaced in your transmission?

Just to add to this, looks like this ol legend was able to find the parts from a diagram to order/replace. However, I'd rather just replace the Solenoid, E, that's giving me trouble rather than them all. BUTTTT, I can't seem to figure out which part is actually Solenoid E...

A lot of recommendations for Lucas so that seems to work well without additive, but thought I'd share my experience on an alternative. Researched to find the Supertech 80-90W is the most economical, and called manufacturer to confirm application for BestGen LSD, and they comfirmed it is "recommended for Limited Slip / Positive Traction rear axles". No additional additive was needed for mine and it runs without chatter.

Yup- I had the same code, “Shift Solenoid E Malfunction”. Shift solenoid E controls the line pressure when shifting, to allow for a smooth shift. It was actually an issue with the wiring harness going to the transmission, it shorted somehow and fried the solenoid.

It’s really interesting to me that your truck drives normally. If solenoid E actually was malfunctioning, the trans would be slamming into the next gear super hard. Like it’s got a shift kit. Mine would actually chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come back.

Here’s the solenoid locations. I believe “solenoid E” is the one labeled “SL”.

Appreciate the info, and yea like I said the truck runs fine. I drove it again today, and after about 5 miles the light came back on but like I said, truck runs fine. Did you happen to ever get your hands on a part number for the solenoid? I've been searching all over and can't seem to find an exact answer on this...

I don’t have a part number, sorry. I sent the truck to a transmission shop as diagnosing/fixing that was out of my league. It’s weird that it’s coming up after a few miles- when it happened to me, the CEL would come on as soon as it shifted from 1st to 2nd.

Dropping the tranny pan and testing my solenoids on this fine Thanksgiving day. Celebrated with friends and family this last weekend and have the house to myself for a few days. Hopefully a simple job and I don't throw a wrench at anything
