It's in a strip mall parking lot, near a Safeway, UPS store, Sonic & dentist. I wasn't taking the time to go to all these businesses to get a minimum wage person's attitude. I figure Progressive can deal with it if they want to.

If the TRD Pro runningboard hadn't been damaged (and weren't 900+) I'd just have had the dent & paint done myself, I'm pretty sure that's just a bit over my 500 deductible.

 

I got most of the rash out with rubbing compound, and the paint off the running board, maybe I'll leave it alone.

Hi this is Matt with AZ Dent Repair. Thanks for the pics. Unfortunately there are limitations to PDR-Paintless Dent Repair. Once the paint is compromised it will only want to crack/chip more if worked. That door would need a conventional repair at a bodyshop, sorry for the bad news.

 

Z3 motor is dead,

Forged internals incoming (to the builder in Ca) He is going to build a motor & we'll swap. Now I have to take the damn thing out.

WTF, did you overheat, or what caused the need for the rebuild?

 

I haven't disassembled the motor but it's doing the same thing the original did, I thought I posted it Sunday but guess not.

Sunday I went for a ride hit 10, smoked like James Bond's DB6, this is from a post on another forum I thought I pasted here also.



Hoping the unburnt fuel caused the oil to stick to the plug & that's why it is caked, piston looks like all the rest, Valve cover was damaged during the engine installation & has been leaking, it started leaking worse when this happened I have had a new one for months so in it goes.

 

Holy shit, is that the ceramic broken off the spark plug? That blows...only 10PSI shouldn't cause issues if the motor was built for boot, that's baby boost!

 

Yup the plug died. Apparently the stock pre turbo BMW pistons don't like boost.

Builder now says (although he knew I had the SC) I needed forged rods and pistons. I'd have gotten them had he slightly suggested it.

Pistons have slightly higher compression so hopefully that'll be good. 10.5.1 is stock these are 11.3.

Shit happens there's no crying in modding.

 

Oh, I thought it was built with forged pistons and rods, that sucks. The higher ratio should make more power, but will need to keep an eye on detonation with boost on pump gas.

 

Certainly wishing I had done it in the first place, my fault I ASSuMED it was ok since he didn't bring it up, I needed to ask, clearly. Not looking forward to the I have to replace the motor conversation with the Wife, she is still in Mexico until Friday & I figured better to let her enjoy the rest of the trip without this bullshit.

Rods & pistons out for delivery, I sent him the waterpump, thermostat & new OEM oil pan I had from my planned rebuild of the 2.8 yesterday, planned engine pickup, second week in January.

On the Sequoia, I have had a seriously annoying rear door open warning, replaced the latch, ordered a new door ecm (that comes today) but yesterday I got a battery light, it was charging at 13.2. I checked the battery and it was at 11.7 when off, I gave it 10 amps until at 100% all night and so far no door warning.

Getting an intercooler to fit would have been a nightmare so to lower combustion chamber temps, I ordered an e85 kit.

42# injectors.

 

Picked up the back, mounted the fan and shroud on the radiator.

 

Disco'd the driveshaft, exhaust & heat shields.

 

e85 kit came.

 

Disassembled the timing components in the head, waiting for a thin wall deep 12point 12mm socket to remove the head nuts.

 

3.5" 22RPD maf came.

 

I had alot of difficulty getting the necessary thin wall deep socket, I went to pick up one at Ace I ordered online, went to get it, nope.

The first socket came & worked! Canceled the rest.

5 of the 14 are out, the rest will fall out when the head comes out.

 

Good news head is off, Bad news #2 had malice in the combustion palace.

Cylinder in question is luckily open, here are a few of the valves. It's amazing how my dog's hair gets everywhere, he is never in the garage.

Looks like the rings butted together (too hot) and pushed up until it broke. You might be able to save the block and head, machine shop will be able to tell you if it's salvageable. I had the same thing happen on my Tacoma and got away with just a hone to clean up the cylinder, but I didn't have broken bits bouncing around the combustion chamber.
