Hello new here need to know if abs brake sensor/ line effects function of brakes. The upper ball joint broke, fixed that then 15ft down rd & lower New one failed which cause tire to turn sideways under truck fixed that however the abs line or sensor broke along with brake line. Does the abs have to be fixed in order for brakes to work?

The short answer is no. However, why would you want to drive around with a safety item disabled? I get that you probably just need to get it up and running, but you're fixing a lot of broken shit, why not just fix it while you're there? Highly recommend you read this>>https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Make sure you go with OEM lower ball joints only. All others are inferior in comparison. Big write up on all this and the failures as a result of not using them on this site.

My abs light has been on since I bought my truck. Works just fine.

Thank you & the reason I asked is because we do not have enough money. He needs his truck in order to make more money. I appreciate the responses very much. Thank you

Totally get it. And it’s probably something stupid like the wheel sensors that are messed up, or the tone rings aren’t lined up well with the sensor (esp if someone replaced bearing or wheel seals), or the sensor, which is magnetic, is loaded up with shavings or misc crap. 50/50 chance it’s a stupid easy fix.

Whatever you do, like @Jack McCarthy said above, DO NOT EVER use aftermarket lower ball joints on these trucks. Aftermarket ones always fail, usually within 10-20 thousand miles. Always use OEM. I only mention it because you mentioned “no money”. OEM cost more, but we have a thread here on the forum with dozens of trucks with thousands of dollars in damage, or totalled completely, because someone thought they’d be smart and buy lower ball joints from the local parts store at 1/4 the cost.

Lower balljoints and timing belt, both need to be done with OEM parts, and every 10k-125k miles. Two things that will 100% kill that truck. If you stay on top of it, that truck will run 500k miles easy.
