Cylinder deactivation is a lot more complicated than just some plug and play ordeal. You gotta find ways to deactivate valves as well as cylinders. And adjust fuel/air accordingly. Also gotta make sure the cylinders your shutting off keep everything properly balanced in the engine.


And that's to save some MPG. If you fuck this up. That's a toasted engine.

I hear you guys. But I do wonder how the tech evolves over the next two decades. Obviously not remotely ready for any sort of retrofit today.

a dozen or more. Also the ones that pull out in front of you from side roads and can’t get traction to get moving nearly causing you to rear end them or run off in the ditch count was about 3 or 4

Those of you with the dancing cams might be able to tune in an adkinson cycle, might need different pistons & a blower for the lean burn, but shutting the intake valve early effectively turns the engine into a smaller air pump.

ok, had that backwards, intake valve stays open longer and the compression stroke pushes some of the intake charge back into the intake manifold.


And like uncle ben said, 'less air requires less fuel' or something.

I’m thinking similar to ECT buttons. Eco vs turbo / performance modes. Might be nice to have options. I like my v8 torque but for long road trips I feel significant guilt over excessive fuel burn.

 

Anybody know how much travel ,5100's and/or 5160's yield on our trucks? I can't seem to find that info

 

Don't feel guilty. Jets and ships use way more fuel. We should be able to drive our v8's guilt free.

 

Think it adds about an inch of travel over stock setup iirc

 

So how much is that?
Only reason I ask is the Archive garage shock relocation says up to 12" travel and the kings they recommend are 10" travel, while the foxes are 12". Weighing my
options and want to know it 10 is worth it or if I should mix n match my Kings with fox for the full 12.

The math on jets is interesting. High burn rate of expensive fuel but per passenger per mile it’s pretty decent.

My guilt is Tundra vs Tacoma on a long road trip. The Tundra is very comfortable and has the best sleeping option. But Taco #1 is better on fuel and the wimp 2wd 4 cylinder Taco is almost decent fuel wise on the highway.

Really that’s the one to optimize for road trips. Bed replacement with waterproof pod for sleeping and some sort of EV / hybrid for urban driving to bump up MPG’s and it’s killer. But not quite as comfortable and max 2 passenger.

 

I went fox. In case you want to test drive. I have a legit clunk I haven’t chased down yet. Not sure if gears or axle wrap from relocate.

I've decided to keep my eyes out for a set of these. I like them and believe I can make them work with my future paint scheme, even if they're the black or grey ones. Also added a remote trans cooler to my to-do list. Never did like the idea of it being integrated into the radiator.
