He prefers feet pics. If he likes what he sees, he'll send you the tool.

I was concerned that there's a ridge in my new bushing...but ECGS assures me that it's normal. Well alrighty then!

Will do. Do I use the conical end of the insertion tool to bang it in, or the flat end?

Flat end, the install kit I got from them didn’t have the right size for the conical end to work. They now have a better version for the install tool, I plan to upgrade soon

Well, that didn't suck. I doesn't look like it went exactly according to plan, but the needle bearing is removed.

    IMG_6670.jpg IMG_6671.jpg IMG_6672.jpg IMG_6673.jpg

Now, to get the new busing installed. That DOES suck...I'm taking a break while it cools off in the freezer :)

Does your needle bearing seem to be noticeably bad? Mine was just fine when I pulled it.

Mine appeared perfectly fine too, from what I remember.

Hammering the new one in took a lot more force than I was expecting.

My needle bearing does NOT seem noticeably bad, causing me to question why I'm doing this in the first place! (The answer is because I'm getting a new hub bearing and CV Axle, so while I'm in there...).

Getting the new bushing in is a PITA! First I had trouble getting it started (the freezer did NOT help!). I notice that the needle bearing has a generous radius on both edges, so I took a fine file and some emery cloth to the inside edge, carefully creating a tiny radius. That did the trick. I got it started and driven almost all the way home, but I'm stuck here:

    IMG_6674.jpg

    IMG_6675.jpg

I'm afraid to smack it harder (plus it's really difficult to hit it all), but it looks like it sticks out further that the .030 - .065 that ECGS specifies.

"TECH NOTE: The T7.5 bushing is longer than the stock needle bearing. There is room for the bushing to
install flush without hitting the spider gear, however some of the Toyota carriers are not bored straight
through and there is a ridge on the inside. The ridge will stop the bushing from seating flush. Installed
height is between .030-.065 off of the carrier bore as acceptable. The bushing can be driven past the
ridge of you hit it hard enough but it will damage the bushing and cause the CV shaft not install
properly. Drive bushing in to carrier with even firm blows once you feel it stop verify height is
    between .030 -.065".

Q: Does our carrier have the aforementioned ridge ^
Q: What result have you all had?
Q: Do I need to get a bigger hammer?
    Q: Or it it good?

Bonus Q: Is the carrier bore the surface with the holes in it?

I feel like you should sent that to @FrenchToasty to expand on the toolkit, making that the official 'finisher' tool to get seating just right?

While I was typing this I had the brilliant idea to go measure! If the surface with the holes in it is the carrier bore, then I'm ~ -065 off it.

    Yeah I'm down with that.
So when i chopped that old CV axle up It was before learning about the value/unobtainium OEM axles. Still.havent checked the remaining one. Not sure if it's a Toyota or not. Reason: If it's an aftermarket I'll chop it up and make another install/punch out if it. Besides the sticker, that will be gone, what other characteristics can I look for to identify oem?
I can take a pic when I get back to the ranch too.

I have one for the seal (2")...are you suggesting that a smaller one could be used to drive the bushing home?

If it sits on the bushing itself it can be. I honestly don't remember that part when we did mine. 2.5 years and beer(then and now) have taken their toll.

Alrighty then! I took a break for lunch, recharged the brain, and watched some more Youtubes. I learned that I could use my jack handle to extend the tool, giving me ample room to swing the hammer. Et voila!

    IMG_6677.jpg IMG_6676.jpg

I have two suggestions for those of you who may be foolish enough to try this mod:

    1. Use a lift so you have room swing a hammer
    2. Get a helper!
