Has anyone had a new engine put in yet under the recall?

Yet my local dealers are lighting up the airwaves and TV with ad after ad for Tundras $7000 off MSRP with Toyota special financing of 2.99% for 72 months.

How many miles did your truck take before blowing up. Me and my dad both have 2022's with the recall, but we both have work trucks. I have 19k miles and he has 7k miles. I am not too concerned if my engine ceases as long as toyota replaces it. I am not worried about the inconvenience since I have multiple trucks. But I have been nervous to go on a road trip with my truck because of this. So how many miles did you start having issues.

Note: me and my dad both got letters from Toyota saying they were going to get to us. We just have no update.

I have a 2022 Platinum with 49K miles currently. As a loyal Toyota/Lexus customer for decades, I did not really mind the other recalls (Tonneau Cover issue, Fuel Line issue, Rear Camera issue, Parking Brake issue, etc), but this whole ENGINE issue takes the cake. In a span of 3-4 months, I have contacted my dealer, Toyota Corporate, Toyota Brand Engagement, back to the dealer SEVERAL times to no avail. End result was a denial for a BUYBACK and to wait for the engine replacement down the road; to which I was given no time frame. I asked, "Are you going to wait until my engine seizes while I'm barreling down a freeway and get into an accident or worse?" My dealer countered by offering me $41K (I paid $70K) for a trade-in and a replacement vehicle at dealer cost -$500. My fuzzy math still puts me in the deep financial loss hole. What do you all think?

Short block replacement update. 2022 with 26k miles that failed on the highway but was lucky enough to pull over before I was rear ended. Failure date 7.31.24. Short block replacement completed 9.20.24. Contacted Toyota care, service advisor, and service manager to stop the short block replacement before the full block option without success. My notice of the vehicle repairs being complete was a text from the service advisor that my rental would terminate end of day 9.20.24..

I saw in another post that supposedly they're supposed to replace your short block again with the long block when it's available. Not sure if this is true or not, doesn't make much sense

10% off maybe big for Toyota but by full size truck standards not a fire sale. My last two Big 3 trucks had 25% off. And financing deals as well.

I am in California. My understanding of the Lemon Law is that I have to give Toyota/Dealer the chance to fix the problem first (ie replace the engine) and after several attempts they cannot, then the LL applies. This is their reasoning for denying the buyback. They said to trust the system as it applies. This is quite unique since its the whole engine replacement is the concern and not some small fix.

Rarely. I requested a rental from the dealer but they refused until the “engine parts come in”. Which could be months from now. I’m at a loss on what to do now. ‍♂️

2022 Tundra SR5 towed to dealer 8/20/24. 41k miles No issues or warning, engine just quit while we were driving 70mph down interstate, dash display showed “engine stopped pull over.” Dealer said it was seized engine and part of the recall. Going on 6 weeks Truck still sitting in lot where tow dropped it. SA told me this afternoon that they are still waiting to hear back from Toyota, and they have no idea when they will have a solution. Dealer has given me a Tundra as a loaner so I can’t complain to much but its still not my truck. SA said it might be after first of the year. It will take me a while after I get it back before I will feel comfortable taking it on a road trip, we waited for 3 hours on interstate for tow truck. This was in Kansas City, would hate to be in the middle of no where maybe without cell service and this happens. I love the truck so hopefully they will get it resolved and we don’t continue to have issues.

If you ever have a bad day at the office, just remember the poor SOB's that screwed up in the Toyota engine machining department.

What are the chances that the original problematic engine caused computer or electrical problems which would survive an engine replacement? ie - previous owner kept driving on a damaged engine?

Also curious if anyone has insight as to why my local dealership would actively advertise a recalled truck for sale

Is it possible the engine was already replaced in the one that's being advertised?

Bluebert , If I understand this right a dealer can not sell a new vehicle that is awaiting a safety recall. They can however, sell a used vehicle with a recall but the buyer has to be advised or one in which the recall problem was fixed.

I asked that question to my dealership and they said no. Here some say yes but I will likely not drive it beyond 60K until I see something in writing. It will sit if nothing firm is said by Toyota and wait for a trade.

Yes. New engine put in. Got it back today. Told it was the first they've done at this dealership. Not a short block - the whole engine was replaced.

I think a good deal on a mid ‘22 that someone is afraid of might be the move. Get a new engine at 50k and have a low cost basis in it. Of course, if you don’t trust a dealer to do an oil change it probably won’t work for you.

So far so good. I've put on a whopping 20 miles and it didn't leak on my driveway during the night.

    Time will tell, I suppose.

Got mine back a few days ago. Brand new crate engine with turbos. Drove close to 200 miles so far so good. Mine was first one at my dealer for complete crate engine. Toyota sent new engine lift along with crate engine so only needed to remove hood and front wheels to swap. Didn’t have to remove cab from frame or front grill to replace engine. After talking to Tech that swapped engine I feel more confident about out come of recall. It did take 3 months at dealer to get trucked repaired, but they did provide me with a Tundra for a loaner, so hard to complain to much. Had 41k when engine failed so at least I can start over on mileage for engine. Time will tell.

Tech started on mine Friday morning and I picked it up Tuesday afternoon. After sitting in parking lot for 3 months my battery completely died and wouldn't take a charge and had to be replaced. So part of that time was trying to charge battery. I think Tech said that they get 14/15 hours for replacement. He said he always plans on spending more time on first few but felt it shouldn’t be an issue once he has a few under his belt. Toyota suppling complete crate engines and only having to remove hood cuts down on time spent with swap. He said crate engine even came with oil installed.

Odometer was not reset. Rest of the truck still has 41k miles on it but engine maintenance will start over. I will do first oil change at 1k and then second one at 3k. After that will go to 5k intervals. Hopefully will not continue to have issues as I hoped on keeping truck for 20 plus years. Traded in my 2004 Tundra crew cab for this 2022. Only reason traded 2004 was frame rusted to point that I no longer felt safe hauling or towing with it. No other issues with previous Tundra.
