I’ve watched a few videos about features that can be selected and changed through this module, which requires a subscription. I am curious if they are also available through an in depth obd2 device such as a Snap-On scan tool. I have full access to one of those and would rather not pay an expense if not needed.

Thanks in advance for your input,
    Mike

You need the Carista app to make the changes. As long as the Snap on adapter connects via Bluetooth, i would think it would work. You'll have to pay $10 (last time I looked) for a month of access to the Carista app.

Thanks DRP. I was thinking that would be the case. Ford has an app for their interface as well, I was only hoping.

A dealer can make the changes as well. I've read some do it for free and some won't. For me, getting rid of the seat belt dings was worth the price.

I just paid Carista the $59 for a year & now I can take care of friends & family as well. Well worth the price of admission.

On my way to KY buddy, lol.

That’s a nice guy idea and if I had some friends around with Tundras, I would see myself doing the exact same.

I was just at the dealer and spoke with the service manager. They charge a half hour labor for personal modifications and will not touch safety items. Turning off dings is a no can do.

I really don’t know if I’d turn those off myself. I understand people are quite annoyed by them. Maybe the back seat if they ding if occupied. It did see on a video that the option to turn off back seat was there. That may be the case.

That's what I plan to do. Amazon has 2 styles, a white dongle and a black dongle unit. Looks like the black is a newer version. What is the difference between these if any?

    Will either work for me?

    Thanks,
    Mike

FYI. I got my OBD2 dongle right from Carista for $40 and that included one month use of their app for free. Not sure if it's still $40...

Yes, either will work for what you want to do. About the only difference for us (Tundras) is that the black one lets you view some real-time data and it uses a faster Bluetooth protocol. For other brands, the black one opens up/works around more (ex: VW) functions not available/needed for us.
Unless you’re wanting to monitor your data on the fly, the original, cheaper version works fine.
*It works for more than just Toyota and you can use it on multiple vehicles with your subscription.*

Mine is white and is 2 years old if that helps. Mine also came with a free month so I did all my changes , then had to buy a month later as the back seat seat bell chimes where driving me mental

    If it helps

    - shut off all seatbelt warning front and rear
    - change signals to 5 blinks ( when doing a lane change if you tap the signal lever it defaults to 3 )
    - AC ambient temperature to -2 degrees Celsius
    - Long press on the fob rolls down all windows and opens sunroof
    - Ensure ANC is ON ( need the JBL system )
    - Shut off fake engine noise ( need JBL system)

Throw out where you live, someone might have one nearby you can borrow

    I am in Brunswick, GA

I know many will not look at this thread. Should I throw it out in another group? I need to look for regional area groups within this site. I’m on my phone at the moment and will look also later on my computer.

Thanks for your inputs. What is the AC change do exactly?

Makes the AC work WAY WAY better, with zero ramifications on the heat . I bought it solely to change the AC ambient temperature......the rest was just bonus stuff

Oh No - Carista got on the gouging band wagon and jacked their prices 50% !! - $15/month now for a subscription. $40 for their cheapest OBD dongle and $56 for the premium one.

Techstream is my go-to to make changes. There are ways to find it free and it is pretty easy to use.

Deleting the faux V8 noise was well worth the price. Anyone in the Portland/Vancouver, WA area is welcome to use my module.

I haven't jumped yet, but realize that a previous owner must have. I have no annoying noises if any of the seat belts are not fastened. I realized that last week when moving the truck around and have tested it a couple times since. YAY

And I am thinking the faux V8 sound has been shut off. I don't think I hear it at least.

Oh... and the signal arm tap gives me 7 signal flashes. I'm thinking that is different from original.

can you use any bluetooth dongle with the Carista app/subscription?

I've heard mixed reviews on that.

Just a follow-up, the modifications are worth it. The tundra is a surprisingly quiet truck with the fake engine modifications. Made mods to lighting, mirrors and some others. Was it worth it? for just modding one vehicle, I'd still do it again. If you can help out other Tundra owners, it's an increasing return on investment.
