It's been over a year since you installed this cabin filter. What are your thoughts? Did you swap out the supplied filter for real a MERV8 filter? Is the air speed sufficient with the added resistance?

It's been fine I suppose. It hurt my airflow but I do think there has been less dust in the cabin. However, I haven't used my truck much this summer - only like 2k miles since April - so I don't have a comparable reference compared to last summer. I never swapped out the filter, and I haven't even removed it since I installed it lol. I probably should do that before it gets cold here.

If anyone is interested I'm making a filter as well. I'll be selling the model for anyone to print it'll be $6. I'm still printing and testing the fit first. It's designed for merv 7 carbon filter or merv 8. I don't mind if anyone buys the model and prints the part for others for free. I may sell it fully assembled if you don't have a printer. I'll probably try for around $25 free shipping.

I'm interested. Is there an actual vendor page for purchase or is everything done offline?

I'm definitely interested. I do not have a 3D printer. I am less interested in filtering out leaves, pine needles, ect and am more interested in removing fine particulate such as road dust or pollen. It appears to me that merv 7 or 8 filters out larger items? I am hoping to be able make an off the shelf air filter to fit this cabin air filter housing

I wanted to go with higher merv value too but merv 8 already cuts airflow in half. This is a link to the model https://www.printables.com/model/1057824-gen-1-tundra-cabin-air-filter
You definitely can go with higher merv but it will decrease airflow a lot. So you would definitely want to upgrade the fan.

I feel like there’s a balance here guys. The big thing is filtering out the stuff that will clog evap coil or get in the fan and make noise. I’m sure dust removal is important for folks in dusty areas or who live on/drive on dirt roads. But I fail to see how a higher MERV rating is really going to be beneficial. This is a car. Higher filtration = more airflow restriction. At some point you’re sacrificing airflow performance (and potentially hardware longevity, via strain) the higher you go with your filtration. I thought the original point of this was to stop random debris from getting into blower motor and evap coil housing?

Yea, you are probably correct here when retrofitting a filter using the stock fan/blower motor. I have a 1.5 hr daily round trip commute so I think about breathing in the fine road dust.

That's exactly why I didn't go higher than merv 8 I read what other people experienced and decided to not go higher.

The files are just different tolerances depending on the printer and material. 4 or 8 bumps are just the contact points that fit in the hole where the fan is. I right now am running the middle tolerance with 4 bumps.

Your price is fine @ $30, less than a half tank of gas. I just ordered one. I presume that I can swap out the filter material when needed at a later date.

Yes I haven't tried washing it yet, but it should be washable too.

If it’s not to much trouble, you should make a video on how to install these. Im sure the sales would go up for people like me who are new to the car world. Im a bit apprehensive on purchasing simply because I don’t know my way around my car like some do on this forum, and im sure it’s easier than what I’m thinking in my head. But itd help ease the anxiety going in, im not too sure if this would even fit a 2002 sequoia but here I am if it does. Thanks

I plan on it when I'm not at work. Because if you pull it out in a certain way you could accidentally break it. I really don't want anyone to accidentally break it. As for fitment shifty` might know. But I know the Instagram and Facebook sellers seem to say the fit is the same.

There are many other videos out there since these filters came out but this Sequoia video should help ya. It's also applicable to our Tundras.
