Trd performance shocks

I have a 2021 sr5 with stock shocks (2wd, never see’s off road), would the trd performance shocks (PTR13-34070) be a worthy upgrade?

 

I mean, what are you trying to do or wanting from a different shock?

Hey! Those are the TRD Sport shocks and you are in DFW, may have something to talk with you about depending on your answer.

So I ran the TRD Sport shocks and I liked it, the truck felt more planted but it wasn't harsh. Yes the ride will be firmer then the stock black shocks but I didn't have issues with it.

 

Just curious if I was losing out with the base level shocks. I know I will be losing some comfort for a more responsive, planted truck, is it worth it in your opinion? I’ve come across a set for a great price.

 

Hard to answer that.

I like the TRD Sport shocks cause the are sportier and make the truck feel a little more planted but you do notice bumps and potholes. Its not harsh or anything but you have more feel of what is going on. I liked it and to me is was a nice change from the black shocks. I have a set in my garage but they are for 4wd so they would lift your front some (looks like it would be about 3/4" lift up front) and have ~40k miles. Not sure if that interests you any (gaining some lift in the front) but if it does, send me a pm and we can talk logistics. The set I have is still fully assembled so it would be a pretty easy swap. Either way you will want to get an alignment after you change out your front suspension even if you go with the shocks meant for 2wd. There could be slight hight differences and also when you do the swap your settings might change. But its not too bad, I've now done it a few times on my truck.

Completely understand. Reach put if you have any questions about doing the swap. I've changed mine two different times now (stock to trd sport, and then trd sport to the bilstein 6112/5100).

 

Installed them yesterday, drove it today. Robert, exactly as you described, I like ‘em, I’m happy.

 

Good stuff! Glad I didn't misrepresent the shocks and that you do like them! Do you have the rear sway bar? I guess that is something I hadn't thought to bring up. I did have the rear sway before I switched to the Sport shocks but that also limits body roll if you are still getting more than you would like (without it).

 

Good thing you liked them. I personally got away from Bilstein because of their Digressive design. I had the 6112/5160 combo. After a while I couldn't stand that you felt every little pebble on the road. Now for fast off road driving, that where they shined. I eventually switched to Fox, progressive. Great for normal everyday driving, way better at low speed, better adsorption of small bump or stuff on road, and still planted and stable. Off road speeds where are great. Never will I go back to a digressive shock again after having a progressive shock.

 

They make for good gator bites though.

 

Yes, installed the rear sway bar about a year ago, truck definitely feels more planted.

 

fox shocks would be nice, but, my truck is 2wd, won’t see off-road, so, can’t justify the expense. I paid $200 for shocks that were taken off with delivery mileage, I’m happy with the upgrade, well, for now anyway!

 

I am also 2wd. I don't know why people always say that. 2wd doesn't mean anything when shopping for parts. Anyways, Fox makes a good shock, better than TRD shocks, that are cheap. Just because it has the Fox name doesn't mean they are expensive.
