What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Heated mirror button on my truck is underneath the cargo light button on the center dash.

This one is for side airbags though, mine is blank too.

Who has recommendations for wash/wax on the chalky white paint? I know you have opinions, Shifty? I will be hand buffing.

 

I not only have opinions, I wrote a whole writeup about how to do it with a random-orbit sander with hook-and-loop pad.

But you want by hand. If hand buffing, Get a GOOD orange cutting pad. I recommend this specific pad, which you can probably get on scAmazon. Buy a couple of them.

Never led the pad touch the ground (sand risk); rinse and wring out before putting it away.

If you use that in combination with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish, I suspect you'll get a long way. I used orange hexlogic pads to do the tight areas on my truck, like the 3" perimeter around my rear window, the A-pillars, and a few of the nooks and crannies.

The hardest parts to really get done, especially with an orbital, are the body lines up over the wheel wells, the body line on the tailgate, and the body lines on the hood. I actually need to go back over all of those spots by hand with my truck. And I need to touch up the passenger's side then re-seal.

Be sure to wax after.

I have an old Coats 40-40 tire changer in my shop. I suppose it would be nice to have a balancer as well, but i haven’t felt a need for one. I think i must be a less discerning driver than most, because i haven’t had my tires balanced on any vehicle that i’ve owned for at least the past 15 years.

 

I am old school, and used a good Turtle Carnuba (sp?) wax. But I need to Claybar and reseal the damn paint anyway, the wax was a temporary solution. One that’s held up really well on the polished panels, but not on the one panel I used compound on without fully polishing out after.

 

That bad tie rod sounds like the culprit for the tire cupping.

 

What should the number and letters be for the new and old caliper?

 

What is the TPMS disable trick?

 

Cut/ground out a wire to bypass the TPMS system, basically.

 

2006 should have “13WL” cast into the caliper.

 

There's a link in my earlier post that has good pictures and info on how to do it. But if you run tires at a lower PSI than that normal, or are too cheap to replace TPMS sensors (like me) then this will keep the tire pressure light off your dash.

 

I just had the tires on my Sequoia spin balanced and the lug nuts were hard to remove, but they barely tightened the wheel lock, which I am ok with. I believe they torque them using the torque specs for the steel wheels, which is 154lbs, and not the alloy wheels (97lbs). I always remove and re torque the lug nuts after the tire shop does anything with them. I try to do it in the parking lot that way if there are any issues they can't try and blame me because I never left the premises.

Thanks. I don't give a crap about the TPMS light. My 95 Cobra and 80 Supra (no longer own her) never had this and we survived for many years without. Hell, I am the TPMS.

 

The stupid light has been on in my 06 since long before I bought the truck. It doesn't bother me at all

 

See if you can find an old bottle of Simoniz.
It might prove to be difficult to find at the local Kmart anymore, but surely you can find a half used bottle in the glovebox of someone’s old Buick.

Decided to try an Avery carbon fiber vinyl wrap on my faded hood. Didn't like it at first but it is growing on me. I messed up a few tiny spots but overall it went well.

 

2004+ all had 13WL. Possibly 2003 also, I always forget.

I need to do this. Wifey ain’t on board. She says repaint the truck. Only really need the hood and roof, which this would work for.

 

Awesome seeing this done, as it's something I've also considered doing.

My roof needs it too. The whole truck does. But I hadn't even considered wrapping the roof. Now I'm thinking CF hood and roof would look sick on my black truck.

 

Smaller pad calipers - S13WE
Larger pad calipers - 13WL

A lot of 2000-02 and maybe some 2003, which had the smaller from factory, were upgraded to the larger caliper due to a TSB which addressed pulsation and premature wear.

 

I'll allow one fake CF hood.and only cause it looks fucking like real carbon. Is it textured?

went on to Insall new winter blizzaks on my extra rims,thats what works here in alaska..winter rims...summer rims and tires...ended up throwing on some napa brake pads...just trying to get threw winter
