Dude when I was in my 20s/30s, I looooved road trips. That was my mental scrub. I got a chance to listen to music, get caught up on that, and keying in on one thing - the road - gave my brain the liberty to get my head straight on so much other stuff. It was cathartic. It was calming. Restorative.

I think the longest trip I ever drove solo was from Gainesville FL, up to PGH for an overnight with a friend nonstop, then from PGH to Brooklyn for a couple of days with same friend and an event we were holding, then from BK through ATL, and ATL back down to FL. I was fading at about 12-13 hours on the FL->PA leg, but pulled out the full 15. Big respect to long haul truckers! I couldn't do that shit, I'd have a road hangover for a couple days after getting home.

20 years later, I won't say I necessarily "hate" road trips. I still love getting out on the road. It's my body that doesn't love it, I start cramping up after 7-8 hours. And I gotta be honest, music these days is shit, so I can hardly get my hands on a few hours of good content and just zone out and appreciate it all. I'll throw one or two new albums in the rotation when I'm going out, but I often find myself skipping through them, and most of our trips are less than 5 hours when we travel by car. With the kids, it's easier to fly, honestly, and cheaper (/free) with miles we accumulate thru the year.

But yeah, other than gas, which I'd usually double up with hitting the head and a drive-thru meal, I was nonstop on every trip. Unless there was some worthwhile quick sight to see.

When I was younger those kind of trips were easy but in my 7th decade not so much. Also the 2018 Tundra seat is not nearly as comfortable as my 2000. In the new truck I have a 4 hr butt at max.

Love road trips. Especially if there’s good camping & wheeling at the destination. The drive home sucks haha.

Big time. Before I had my Lexus, I had this little first-gen Honda Insight. Awesome car- I really miss it sometimes. But it was excruciatingly awful on the highway. Still, I visited the girlfriend probably a dozen times in one school year.

Exactly. This is one of the reasons I kept the stock radio in my truck, music. I'm very lucky that my parents kept their CD and cassette collections. I rotate what's in the truck and on long drives I listen to their music from the 80s/90s/2000s. It's so cool. Not only do I get to listen to good music, but I get to listen to their music. I can tell you exactly how my dad's music taste changed between 1980 and 2000, or what my mom's favorite band was in 1994. Understanding their music tastes and how they listened to music has absolutely changed the way I listen. It's one of my favorite parts about road trips and one of my favorite parts about my truck.

I think another thing that got me hooked on road trips was just how many we did as a kid. We didn't have the money to fly a family of 5 somewhere, so we just drove. I mentioned some of our trips when I posted about selling our minivan, but we drove to Florida 5 times, Colorado twice, Utah once, Cali once, Vermont, Quebec, Atlanta, Missouri. All over the damn place. It was awesome. The drive to and from our final destination was the journey- we'd stop in all sorts of places along the way. Now we fly places. I'm lucky to get to go on vacations, but man, I miss road trips.

One time we ended up on a 10-12 hour road trip- each way- with only the Matrix soundtrack…

Can’t remember which one is further, but from DFW I’ve driven from key west with one stop and to and from Moab and Sedona which were both ~ 16 hours straight burning the midnight oil.

That’s brutal. I can do distance but for whatever reason that section between Amarillo and Albuquerque always kills me. Day or night it doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t want to see me win lol.

OK, so I went on FB with that exact copy/paste, and FB brought it up as the Enkei wheels with a pic and link under that info. I literally just highlighted that info and hit copy. Nothing else. I fucking hate FB, but it's the only place to get good Vic, 4.6, and Haltech info.

    Amarillo to Flagstaff wasn't bad.
What was bad is I worked a night shift, drove to Amarillo from Houston as soon as I got off work. Tossed and turned on Beau's couch all night. Then drove to Flagstaff with no sleep.

People like the bag on RAV4 (and it's easy too, same with Highlander) but I've seen a FWD first gen RAV4 bombing up and down trails keeping up with the 4x4's

I have new and improved couch 2.0 this time.

It's a barren wasteland. Wanna see Fallout 3/NV IRL? Drive on I-40(the 40) west of Amarillo.

We have a buddy that had a 3G4R rwd and he thought he was doing super good for not having 4wd. 2 hours later a Hyundai sonata hybrid drives right through the middle of camp and someone says “did pretty good huh” and we haven’t let it down since

Has anyone 4wd swapped their 2wd truck?

My family friend has an ‘04 DC that he absolutely loves, but it’s 2wd. He’s from Michigan and that isn’t ideal. He’s handy and his father used to be a mechanic. He’s aware that he’d need a ton of stuff and that it’s likely not worth it fiscally.

My question- do all of our trucks come ready for the 4wd parts? Like, if he bought the dash panel with the 4wd buttons, would the wires be there? Are there bolt holes for the front diff in the frame?

Or since it never came with 4wd, would all that stuff be missing?

He asked me if I think it’s possible.
