What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

So what's he doing with his old Tundra?

 

Not sure yet. If he can find a buyer, I'm sure he'll get rid of it. Its an 07 CD but it has a lot of issues. It was wrecked at some point and the repairs weren't great. The engine had to be rebuilt at one time I think as well. The problem is, its also a bit of a gas hog and folks down there mostly drive smaller cars or small trucks because gas prices down there are shit.

 

Has Anyone ever determined accurately what's making the noise? Like is it on the end of one of the links, or in the straps to the frame... or general body flex somewhere?
Rotating the tires today, so perfect timing to experiment with the disconnect. thx for the input.

 

9” and it blocks maybe 1/8” but not even noticeable. It’s damn near perfect to fit over the bezel, but not blocking the vents.

My links were still good (i think) when i deleted them, so i can't say for sure on a tundra. I will say this, the swaybar would clunk and pop a lot on my mother's 2008 Odyssey. Turned out the ball joint inside the end link was severely worn out. It wasn't noticeable until i disconnected the end link from the low arm though. The reason being was that there was too much tension holding them in place when all the swaybar components were still assembled. Once the tension was removed, then it was quite obvious that the ball and socket on the end links were completely worn out.

 

Mine came out with little resistance (covered in oil... who does that ), and all the joints were tight. These were some of the first things I replaced in 21, I think one was broken at that time. Probably the cheapest $10 ones you could get.

 

Indifferent on the wheels but that grill looks waaay better! turned out nice!

 

I think I prefer the silver wheels @shifty`, but both look good. Grill looks great.

 

Let me preface this with I don't really know what a stock truck feels like since mine came with coilovers already on it. I will say removing the sway bar was almost comical because I almost couldn't tell a difference. When you yank the front sway bar out it'll roll more, but you really have to lean into it to feel it. Most applications have a "settling point" where you lean the truck into a turn and it finds a happy place and holds it. I usually just drive with a little more distance between the vehicle in front of me so I can really get on the brakes and slow the truck down before I have to make any evasive maneuver. I've had a close call once and felt the truck really lean into a turn, but that was after I did the rear shock relocation and I didn't recall it leaning that much with the factory mounting.

TLDR yank it out you won't feel that big of a difference on the street, but dont be a dumbass and yank the wheel.

 

Same here. The machined wheels just feel right, but the black and gold definitely look aggressive. Next set needs to be machined with a black ring

 

Yeah I want to see the grill with the gold wheels. Then I want to see the mesh painted gold and the rear bumper wrapped in reflective gold. The cap wrapped tan.

Installed a set of the Falken Wildpeak AT4 tires (265/70/17). I was going to step up to the 270/65/70 tires but decided to stick with the same size tires already on the truck with the stock suspension, well it has a very slight lift with the 5100s but not enough to consider it to be a lifted vehicle. These Falken tire measurements are pretty darn close to the 270s though so it's as if I do have them. I like the aggressive sidewall and the raised Falken lettering.

The truck had BFG KO 265/70/17 tires (still has 11/32 on treads) when I bought it and they were out of balance. I had the tires re balanced but they still had vibration from 65 miles per hour but not as bad as prior to the re balance. During my research, I found there were some owners who stated the KO2s had balancing issues and were not great in wet weather performance. Additionally, I could not find any definitive reviews where the owners of the KO3s did not have any of the same issues or that BFG addressed the wet weather performance with the new KO3s, other than on paper reviews - many reviews were trail reviews. So, I decided to play it safe and go with the Falken tires, especially because of the documented better wet weather performance of the AT3s and AT4s (did find some videos on wet weather performance with these tires).

Here in the DC area we get more rain than snow, so I needed a better wet weather A/T tire, however, I know these tires can handle the little snow we do get. I also get onto some dirt trails for my wildlife photography and I know these tires can handle those duties when needed.

 

Probably the tongue weight. I can't recall if you have helper bags to level the truck out.

The extra weight raises the front and droops the suspension. Leading to extra camber and a toe change. The toe change is what ate your tires.

 

Are they AT4 or AT4W?

Curious, how are they on road noise? I picked up some AT3W and was annoyed by this weird vibration I feel in the floorboard and pedals from 10-25mph (ish) and they're pretty noisy overall.

 

Yours are also used and older. Don't all tires get louder as they age? I know my K Bro2's have.

 

The fronts are more worn too. TBH, I'm not sure. Maybe with heavier load rating? I've never had anything more than a light A/T tire on any of my previous trucks, and I rarely ever keep my wheels when I'm done with a set of tires, so I can't say for sure.

I ask about the noise because someone else on here was complaining about the same thing recently. And I feel like they also got Wildpeaks but IDK, can't recall.

 

Think toy uppers are only like $40ish each.

Same clunk when I turned right out of my driveway this morning.
As for the feel w/o them, it's not horrible but quite noticeable. Will be putting them back on. My clunkquest continues.

Are the front shocks new?
Most the time I've seen people only recommend deleting the front sway bar if you have decently upgraded/stiff front suspension.

Yesterday I used a very tiny file to ream out the brass outlets of my windshield washer spray nozzles. They work a little better but I need to buy some replacement ones that give more of a spray than a jet like the OEM ones.

 

Pickup some for the ‘05+ it’s more of a fan pattern if I recall. @The Black Mamba did a good write up on it w pics

 

accident side/was replaced with a monroe quick strut/needed a good stock spring.

It was the ONLY junkyard coil in my area.... had to buy the whole strut assembly and break it down and stick my new 4600 in there.

 

Scheduled an alignment for the 3rd at the best alignment shop in town per @JakeJake recommendation. Wheelers AAL will be going on this weekend as well as lifting the coilovers. No rain scheduled and 83 that day. Should be fine.....

 

So took my front sway bar off over a year ago, added a rear sway bar around that time and added my bigger camper shell. Felt good but then, added Archive Garage leaf springs and U Bolt flip kit and had to remove the rear sway bar because it no longer fit with the U bolt flip.

Had that setup for over a year now and definitely get some body roll on the higher speeds, and even the lower speeds probably from the weight of the camper and camping gear, but over all felt pretty good. I think the medium duty archive springs helped alot.

Then recently added a new rear (chevy/GMC) sway bar with the repurposed end links that I made recently for a trip up the coast this weekend to a friends wedding. Whoa that rear sway made the truck feel so much more planted and took away practically all the body roll. It was good having no sway bars for a year to really get used to how that felt, and now adding just this one new variable (the rear sway bar) really let me feel the difference! Like a whole new truck on the highway
