I think you've got it... the black is not primer, it is base model stock finish. So they offer mustache pieces in black and chrome...
ps... the SR is not an attractive grille... I like the honeycomb on the TRD

I had the option to take delivery of the SR5 version of the same truck I got in Limited a few months prior to my Limited being built, but decided to hold out for the Limited and fix the chrome instead. The cost difference was only ~$1000 and I think you get quite a bit more value than that in the extra features.

    Loaded DC SR5 OR - $55,532
Loaded DC Limited OR - $56,558

Limited Offroad has a few upgrades not available on the SR5 Offroad:
    - Cooled Seats
    - 12 speaker JBL instead of 6 speaker stock stereo
    - Power package with wireless charging, bed outlet, and back seat outlets (This was a must have for me as I used the bed outlet in my Tacoma quite a bit)
    - Tailgate release button in taillight
    - Black 20" wheels vs 18" gunmetal/chrome (Would have preferred 18s, but like the all black style a lot more than the gunmetal with chrome accents)

It was cheaper/easier to color match the chrome than add the above myself so I held out for the Limited

I love the chrome mustache! Why? Because the few of us that wrap/paint it makes our trucks stand out and look bad ass!!

I'm happy they did a good job for you, but $800 two years ago is steep. I went to the paint shop here in Phx today that Westcott uses to have my fog light bezel painted to match my truck (my 24 Limited already has the paint match stache). They quoted me $125 for my bezel. My son has an SR5 TRD OR with the chrome stache, which he hates. They quoted $400 for the stache and fog light bezel for his truck. I've seen their work and it's quality. I found it to be much cheaper than I expected for everything.

Side note, I also found out that there are two different versions of Solar Octane. I've always wondered why 4Runners and Tacomas in Solar Octane look different than my Tundra. It's because they are different. They have regular Solar Octane, which is used on 4Runners and Tacomas, and a "brilliant" version, which is used on the Tundra. Basically, the Tundra has more metallic flake in it, which makes it appear brighter than the 4Runners and Tacomas.

Hogie Shines is the paint shop. They’re off Deer Valley Rd, right by the Deer Valley airport. They do great work.

I think the colored matched 'stache and fog light bezel is the way to go. Doing the bezel is a small detail that makes a huge appearance difference, IMO.

I snagged this pic from another thread.
