If that's what was in the first gen TRD Tacomas, they seem good. I rarely, rarely used mine. Years would go by without using it. Not sure if that's better or worse for it, but I assumed worse. Kind of like putting our trucks in 4wd now and then to keep things lubed and working. Anyway, locker always worked when I needed. Worked the day I sold it when I tested it out during the test drive. That was a 98, so 26 years later, still working great.

Eaton doesn't make the stock Toyota e-lockers. The Eaton are a little different than the factory Toyota e-lockers, their engagement operation method is a little bit different.

    https://www.carthrottle.com/news/what-scrub-radius-and-why-it-important

Here’s a quick read on scrub radius. I did take a stick to my front end to see what mine was earlier this week. My setup puts my scrub within the first 2” of the contact patch on the inside of the tire, but I really don’t care cause it looks good lol. 17x9.5 -32 (4” backspacing). It’s so aggressive i could damn near replace the LBJ without pulling off the wheel.

Put away tools for the day. At first I was not impressed with the Diablo blades I had, burned thru 4 of them without even making it thru one cam bolt(front driver was seized)
Went to the hardware store and got 50$ worth of other ones along with some temp nuts for my cam bolts. Maybe the carbide ones are better?
Got the arms out and started flattening the cam tabs with a grinder. The instructions say to remove entire cam tab plate……… but on the rears it’s part of the frame, so I opted to just grind down the tabs; we will see if that bites me in the ass later. Everything is pretty much ready for welding except the back rears because the rack is blocking my grinder getting in there to take the tabs down.

front of the rear cam tab plate, see how it blends in with the rest of the frame further down in one pieceIMG_7019.jpg blue tooth LCAIMG_7020.jpg IMG_7021.jpgone for the hand manIMG_7023.jpgback of rear, same sandwich design with the cam tabs that integrate further into the frame with no breaks.

i should have arms mounted by tomorrow but no where near done

    A bajillion times.

I've seen the cam tabs both removed and ground flat. I like the idea of having the extra thiccness to clamp against.

    nice work!

Hahah I never used them before or bought them, so I guess I didn’t get the good Ones the first time, the one that did cut thru is still probably good for 6 more cam bolts!!!

yeah I didn’t want to cut into the inter grated cross member trying to remove two stupid tabs, and I agree with the more material sentiment. And for the most part it just makes things easier on my end with labor.
Hahah you do this shit everyday, I’m pooped!!!

Went out for informal job interview. Discount Tire was in the same parking lot, so I took it as kismet, finally got this done. And I tossed the TRD logo on the sports grille.

Looks like my Magnaflow cat is done, two new O2 sensors did not change a thing. Ordered a Walker plug-and-play from RA to hopefully get through emissions.

I got some Hercules blades from HF wayyyyy better. I smoked 2 blades cutting the driver side bedside when I did all that trimming.

Used traditional "undercoating" (looks similar) on underside of fj40 fenders after properly prepping (sandblasting IIRC) and first covering in epoxy. Think it's been about 20 years and holding up fine.

Did the normal 5000 mile oil and filter change, rotated the tires, greased the driveline. Also installed LED bulbs in the instrument cluster. What a difference! The one thing I wasn't happy about seeing was some grease starting to pooch out of the intact cups on the LBJs. They were replaced (and documented) by Toyota in the recall campaign in 2006, and 63,000 miles ago. I guess this is the beginning of the end for these LBJs? No play in them. I was thinking about ordering them (OEM) and having them on hand to replace in 5000 miles at 100,000. What do you all think?

    Bank 1 O2 sensors.

Front was surprisingly not so bad. Except somehow my O2 sensor socket shrunk and the 3/8" ratchet wouldn't fit in the hole..? Very strange. So that held things up overnight, but I bought a new one and it worked great.

And the back...well, one nut was no problem. Other was a lot of problems. But with a lot of hammering & cold chisel it finally budged without even damaging the stud threads or needing to cut everything off.

    IMG_6754.jpg

Will connect the battery in a couple minutes here and see if the check engine light comes back on.

My plastic cover is raised up, too. It annoyed me more at first, but I've gotten used to it, more or less. Or other things are more concerning for now.
