I mean, they're both technically hydraulic fluid (ATF & power steering fluid). Different additive packages, and you should always use what OEM recommends for the part that's using the fluid, but PS vs. ATF, I don't think, will kill anyone.

SE Toyota dealers sell a power steering fluid that is clear. It looks just like what came from the factory. Container looks suspiciously similar to Idimetsu PSF.

The base is metal though... I was thinking some satin black Rust-Oleum if it will stand up to the elements. I'm not trying to paint any of the plastic bits.

Is it? I thought it was plastic. Huh. I guess I'd use Rustoleum satin black then. Mine don't feel rubberized, so I'd want to stick with something not-rubbery.

If you look closely at the passenger mirror, you can see it's almost completely exposed metal as the original paint has chipped off. It doesn't rust so it's either aluminum or stainless. Looks like aluminum to me.

Someone on here - I'm going to randomly take @JakeJake b/c pretty sure it's him - repainted his mirror caps and used a textured paint which looked perfect to me.

Damn I hope it was him and my memory isn't failing. I remember a lot of really weird shit, and then everything else is a far in the wind. Getting old sucks!

It was in fact me! I used a rattle can of Rustoleum truck bed coating. Look(ed) great but don't skimp on the prep. Mine look pretty beat after only 2,000ish miles.

painted my bumper and slider with rustoleum bed coating spray, this is after about as amateur effort as it gets. No sanding, bare metal, 2 coats. I think it has good color especially for an area like side mirrors that doesnt see a lot of friction.

Man, I'd have at least hit it with a self-etch primer so you've got something digging into the steel, which is also offering up tooth for the paint to grab into.

I am running a test to see how fast it fades with as little effort put in as possible lol. At the first sign of rust/ bad wear, ill do it right. Also considering doing the same to my hood with is looking like @Mustanley mirrors lol
