Discounts are to be had. More soon. Bizarro world to think back to Covid times and realize some of the over MSRP prices that were “normal”

Different market in Canada. Its unfortunately not as good as the US market. The fewer allocations at the dealers I spoke with are all pre-sold leaving you to wait for one. These were curiosity calls only. I have no interest in buying a brand new "Toyota" first year vehicle. The Tundra fiasco has wrecked it for me.

It's the entire auto industry. Post COVID reboot paired with EV rotation that is face planting has led to a lot of junk on the lots. I am looking for the wife a CUV and horrifying the quality of what's out there.

This is BS. I stopped at the local Ottawa dealer and they can get me one in 4 months. I tested one last week (premium version). Assembly quality much better than Tundra but, did not like how it drives. Transmission feels very jerky. Engine has power but it is NOT smooth. Overall it is NOT woth 97,000$ (taxes in).

Yesterday I watched review for the Lexus sports car LC 500 with 5.0 V8. This is the engine we should be all getting in big SUVs and new tundra!

"get me in one" and "got me in one" are two different things. They start extending in the 3rd month. I buy cars with a club, takes 5 mins when I am ready. Have been dealing with these people for years. Either way it doesn't matter to me.

Also bringing up MSRP, IMO, is not relevant anymore to some people. I know maybe 6? younger people 30'ish who are buying these vehicles. They don't care about MSRP. All they care about is the monthly payment that is worked out. If something happens, they know the vehicle gets disabled and taken back. Owning a $100k vehicle outright is not one of their goals. They flip vehicles every 2-3 years. So quality and durability only needs to last this long.

Been curious about Myself if block was cast and or machined elsewhere. However, that doesn’t absolve Alabama for not properly inspecting them. Toyota references asking Alabama to review their inspection logs in their investigation chronology . It doesn’t seem like this Was helpful and isolating the problem to a specific batch.
Also, did the same castings go to Japan? Or was it whole engines from Alabama.

Also, Won’t the replacement have to be a long block? How could Toyota go to press claiming they are replacing the entire engines and then say oh never mind we’re just Installing a new short block Not a whole new engine.

I’ve driven the 3.0 baby diesel in well broken in Tahoe and a Sierra. They were much slower than the 5.3 litre gas. Decent torque and Great mileage though.

I had an EcoD previously. 0 to 60 was 8.5s I am guessing. If you are a practicing for your next career as a drag racer at every stop light like some folks you will not be happy.

The rear end ratio is super important on the low HP diesels. Get a low ratio like a 3.21 and you will easily get 30 MPH but be slow as molasses. Get a 3.93 you pay with a couple MPG but much quicker off the line

The block is cast in Tennessee and fully machined at Alabama. There is no need to question this. It is 100% factual and true.

The V35A-FTS (Type '21) used in Japan is 100% cast, machined, and assembled in Japan.

    From our TacomaWorld friends:

    upload_2024-8-18_8-51-7.png

I've seen a video with a lot of slop in the main bearing play, but that was after the main had already spun. Kind of surprised an engineer wouldnt have stuck to saying just debris causing it. Then again it could have been someone claiming to be a Toyota engineer. Either way thought it was interesting.

The bearing clearances have been the same since the V35A-FTS (Type '17) was introduced in the Lexus LS500.

The clearance on the bearings also dictates what sort of oil to use.
If the bearings are too loose then wouldnt the problem be lessened with a higher viscocity oil instead of a 0w20?

Design Issue ... probably should've used plasti gauge on each and every engine assembled. But, maybe they did?

Mystery is still why #1 set?

Will Toyota give me a loaner for the term of engine replacement build if it takes more than one day? Peace. D

Recall letter clearly says it will be replaced with a new one. Nothing about an engine assembly.

    Just semantics, no?
    Engine = new complete engine
Engine Assembly = new complete engine

    As opposed to:
Long block = NOT a complete engine
Short block = Even less of a NOT a complete engine

Wow! I haven’t heard anyone mention the slant-6 (outside of my brothers) in decades. We had a Plymouth with slant-6 and it WAS a beast. We used it to pull cut trees out of the woods, pull tractors that were bogged down etc.

0 to 60 in 8.5s is not “fast” compared to the gas or hybrid options. That’s all I’m saying. I love diesels, but they are not built for speed.

So definitively if machining debris is the problem that happened in Alabama then. Not Arkansas, not Tennessee and not Texas.

Well I just took a last peak at FB Tundra pages and god almighty it all appearances are of a dumpster fire out there V35 Tundra world. One guy is now on his 3rd motor failure inside 10K miles and about to sue the dealer. Other motors blowing left and right including a guy who took delivery of a 24 just this past May! I know it’s not everyone and most motors are doing fine, but god it’s ugly scrolling through photo after photo of trailered Tundras getting hauled to the dealership to be out of commission for weeks if not months to let god knows who perform open heart surgery on the motor.

The Tik Tok videos of the techs cussing the rebuild showing literally hundreds of parts randomly scattered across the shop floor and piled haphazardly in the bed are like nails on a chalkboard cataloguing of Extraordinarily unprofessional behavior. No wonder these rebuilds are failing, they are contaminating the internals and maybe leaving a few parts out. From their limited command of the English language from one of them, I seriously doubt he knows his way around a torque wrench.

Just wanted to say again how bad I feel for all y’all. Toyota NA needs to get off their duff and start shipping crate motors like they promised in writing. They still need to address the hybrids too. Those are failing plenty too.

I’m taking delivery of a Japan made Land Cruiser 250 tomorrow. Hopefully it fairs better. Some reports of transmission issues, but that’s a relatively easy swap. I’m very frustrated I’m not driving a new 1794. I’ll sorely miss that 32 gallon fuel tank too.

Mike Sweers needs to get his folks to straighten up and fly right a before I’ll consider a Toyota NA product again. However I do hope to be back soon and hope they get around to taking care of everyone including Hybrid owners soon.

Good luck and god speed to all of you.

This will bug the Canadian Land Cruiser guys.

Just a quick look at 2 local dealers and they have this many on the lot. I think folks are not interested in the price, games local dealers are playing with add ons or wary of Toyota 1st year truck based vehicles with Turbos and poor quality builds. Especially if based on the Tacoma which has been having some issues.

Quite a few Tundras and Tacomas at both as well.
