I've got the Master Tailgaters black metal one on my truck. It's been great, install was easy. I bought direct from Master Tailgaters, probably overpaid... I think I paid $159... didn't realize they sold through Amazon

isn't there a square stake pocket cap built into the bed rail cap that can be removed(or drilled for wire & grommet)? I seem to recall there being one.

All the more justification to get a nice tight set of off-road bumpers.

@VR6T is your latch busted or you just want a camera? I found another comment of mine where I recommend buying just the camera and drilling your OEM latch handle if yours is good.

All of the FSMs (2004/2005/2006) for the larger 17 mm LBJ bolts first introduced in 04 show a torque value of 48 ft lb. I've read on here that these bolts should be tightened to 59 ft lb and, perhaps, can be tightened to 80 ft lb. I've read a lot on this forum but don't recall reading a thread where these upward values are directly referenced and sourced. Maybe I just missed it or suffered a memory lapse.

Where do these values come from and is there a link? Is it tied to a specific bolt (part #) since there are at least 3 different Toyota LBJ bolts that I know can be used on our later year trucks with the big balls. I have two sets of them myself:

    90105-A0187
    90105-12316

Depending on the TMC parts dealership, one of these bolts shows up in their system. I talked to Toyota South and they sent me the installation page from the manual - which I already had (Hats off to des2mtn) as well as the 05-06 manual (Thanks, Shifty for posting).

Just one of the things I am sorting thru before replacing week after next.

But that just references, compares, and discusses bolts for the smaller LBJs and their 14 mm bolts (with or without protectors) found in Tacomas and early 1st Gen Tundras 01-03 and a few 04s, doesn't it?

I seem to recall a couple of followup comms, maybe with ARP, that discussed the longer bolts and a few other things but haven't been able to locate it since. Plus, I don't quite remember what was said.

I hope that 670 works better for you. Maybe it’s not meant for bright sun. I couldn’t see that screen in dawn or dusk. Let us know.

Beyond that, the values are in the FSM, but we have no digital copy of the FAM for ‘00-‘02, ‘04, and ‘05. The ones being passed around are for ‘03 and ‘06.

That said, @assassin10000 is on point as usual. And there is a typo I. The FSM, it says 48 in one spot and 59 in almost all others. I opted for larger value on my ‘06 and probably need to edit my recent reply where I think I said 48 again. Dammit.

I went 48# on the black boots with the protectors. Split the difference. It’s pretty darn tight.

I maxed them out. Updated firmware, customer service, etc. still sucked ass. Maybe it just didn’t do well with the altitude up here. Not so alpine after all.

Maybe you just got a shit screen. I had my OEM screen do that in my 12 JSW, luckily for me there was an open recall through VW on it

Y'all gonna shit, because I directly disobeyed orders and hit it with the impact and some blue loctite. I've had to remove my spindles two other times prior for suspension swaps and both times popped off the lbj bolts and reused em, with the impact, no loctite, and was fine for 6 years of on and off road abuse. But this time I did use new bolts and loctite... So that's nice.

So I was babysitting the job at the airport today and one of the Jman says, "hey, I think this is mo old truck" and proceeds to show me that bottom picture. I said "hey, I know that guy!". So I showed him those pics we took back in December. Small world.

FWIW, Tyler 208 posted FSM torque values for the various Tundras at the end of his LBJ video found here:

    https://youtu.be/aQt_3nxOtNs?feature=shared

I found it interesting that TMC obviously changed bolt types and sizes with the introduction of the rubber protector in 2001 (mixed year that required a longer bolt) and the larger 17 mm bolt heads in 2004 (also a mixed year).

I've been to Texas...spent a good chunk of my career in and out of there and 12 more in AK working on O&G and other resources.

Would TX exist were it not for the brave Volunteers of Tennessee? Go Vols!
