My truck engine decided to grenade yesterday. Not quite 39,000 km on it. Anyone know what the current lead time is in Canada to get engine replaced?

Absolutely no symptoms Or indications say anything was wrong. Went to pass another vehicle was up to about 70 mile an hour when I backed off to slow down after passing all sudden the motor just quit. When I pulled over the screen went blank I tried hitting the starter button a few times nothing. I open the door close. The door hit the starter button again at which point the starter engaged, but very slowly and then had a bottom and knock in the motor. I called the dealer. I asked him if they wanted me to drive it or tow it. They said drive it so I drove it in by the time I got it there I was bouncing between no oil pressure and low oil pressure on the gauge. The motor was not happy .

I did not ask the dealer about timeframe yet. I have to say they have an absolutely top shelf so far gave me an identical pick up truck to drive with a dealer plate on it for the time being as a loaner. It may help that I have been a dedicated Toyota buyer for the better part of the last 10 years, and have bought numerous vehicles from them

No drop in gas mileage beforehand or anything? Did you get a big downshift in to pass or were you passing by lightly hitting the throttle?

This seems odd. You got a loaner but didn't ask about how long?

Folks have been reigning in buying expensive vehicles with higher interest rates and prices plus the Tundra recall, there will be plenty of news ones for dealers to loan out.

Every Toyota dealer near me has many Tundras and Tacomas.

The strange thing is they haven't dropped prices much and locally still play the add on and fee game.

Not here. They offered me mid-50's on a truck I paid $63 for that is now 2yrs and 15K miles old. No clue what the buy price would be but I think they are trying to move units. I was completely underwhelmed with the Tacoma. I don't get it and they have lots of them.
For me, I like the Tundra better than ever at 15K. I had friends in town and drove a a 5000 mile GX460 all weekend. Great finish but that drive train sucks. It's like a wheezy 5.3 Tahoe. To say it's long in the tooth is an understatement.

I hadn’t really checked out any forums before. This is the 10th Toyota I’ve owned(all from same dealer, have a new Tacoma on order for my wife), had 4 Tacomas before the Tundra. I have a really good relationship with my dealer and have other vehicles to drive, I’ve had my Tundra about 2.5 years and only had 39k as I don’t drive it in winter. In regards to fuel economy it hasn’t been great since I lifted it and put the 35s on it. Best fuel economy was 14.5 litre per hundred highway. Local driving was high 16s litre per hundred.

Mmm I see, prolly did a nice smooth light throttle pass to keep that mpg as good as possible right? Or did you just stomp on it like a heathen?

Welcome. Hope you get the Tundra sorted out soon and glad you’re in a Tundra rental. And just scroll past the deniers…. every rational person here understands why Toyota recalled 100K motors with likely another round of recalls coming for hybrids and 2024s. If sucks for you guys.

lol I stood on it to pass the vehicle in front of me and when I let off is when it puked. I’m 55, I don’t beat on it or tow much with it but occasionally like blowing the carbon out

Yes the tires are lift are appearance only. I didn’t like the Barbie tires and low stance.

    So you're saying
    1. the 2" lift and 35" tires caused the main bearings to grenade?
    2. the OP passing a car, accelerating from from 50-70MPH, caused the main bearings to grenade?

Personally, I think it's just a design flaw that Toyota is "still" working on fixing while simultaneously recalling over 100K of these engines before the trucks turn in to lot decorations at your local dealer. Interestingly, seemingly more than a few long time members here have opted to go with a domestic truck versus buying a new 3G Tundra. That's very bad news for Toyota.... I remember how the company scratched and clawed their way from the Tacoma to the T100 to the 1st gen Tundra and finally to the 2nd gen Tundra to earn a piece of the truck market. Losing customers to other brands without conquest incentives is bad news for Toyota. They've got some serious QC work ahead and then some serious PR work... and I'd guess there will be big incentives to move the 2024s this fall.

How come the sales are up? They must be winning more new customers than they are losing old customers?

I just signed up to see if other people having issues. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m a pretty diehard Toyota guy and that’s not gonna change. I would much rather have a Toyota than any of the other makes because at least Toyota will look after you as a customer.

Seems to be a fairly common occurrence in a lot of the failure threads…when getting out of the throttle after passing or getting up to speed.

I couldn’t find a single thread amassing engine failures re: the new Ram nor is there a 100K motor safety recall on the Ram.

Thus far, Toyota has absolutely screwed the pooch on the 3.4TT. Stating that fact isn’t a personal attack on 2022-2024 owners, it’s just reality. And at this point, I think most of us would trust any 1/2 ton motor in any other truck brand more than the 3.4TT in the Tundra. I’m sure that’ll change at some point, but Toyota has a pretty steep PR hill to climb IMO.
