Wrap or repaint I would guess. Maybe just line-x the whole truck (assuming you have no clear coat left to work with in restoring).

Normal, if it's not a white truck. Read here for more info.

But given the description, sounds like typical clearcoat fail. Only solution is selective respready, full respray, or wrapping the truck.

Is it work paying the 12k for a good repaint I’ll keep the truck for as long as possible but I could buy another first gen for that

    $12k for a full repaint?? :eek2:

I remember when it used to be $4k but that was over 2 decades ago. Wow.

I wonder how much those $300 single stage Maaco paint jobs go for today?

Around $1k. And $600 for each layer of clearcoat you want to lay on top of it. That's for the ultra-basic, where no body work is required.

My FIL had to get his Gen4 CRV repainted in 2019, and he paid $2,400. OEM black with a slight flake to it, and one coat of clear. Two small dings repaired with basic sand + filler. No door jambs or sills or other, since it was a basic case of Florida causing clearcoat fail.

    lots of dents
I think it was right around 1997 that i repainted my friend’s 1985 GMC 4x4. It was two tone light blue and silver, and i repainted it the same color. The body was in good shape enough that i didn’t have to do very much bodywork. I simply sanded the original topcoat down the the original primer, then sprayed a sealer, a bit of primer surfacer, a few coats of primer, another coat of sealer, and single stage color. In including jams and inside the bed. It came REAL nice. I used all PPG products top to bottom. From what i recollect, all the paint materials costed about $200-$250. I also gave him a real good buddy hookup price for my labor. Something like $200. It’s absolutely mind boggling just how much paint materials cost nowadays…let alone a complete paint job!

No joke! My neighbor painted my parents' suburban around the same time; I think it was $400 in materials including tape, paper, bondo and some extra tools for a sizable dent the rear quarter; I think he charged them about the same in labor. Did a two tone with clearcoat.

Looking to respray my topper and by the time I buy primer and reducer and that stuff that makes the paint more flexible for bumpers and such (nope, not a body guy, but I know my way around an HVLP gun) I think I'm the same $400 for a single stage.

Wow! I was thinking for 12k I can buy everything I need to do it my self and then some. 12k was the price for the places that “do it by the book” they would strip the body of everything and replace what needs to be replaced. Essentially make the body new. I’m having clear coat failure so I was hoping all of that wasn’t necessary.

Maybe some of that poppy’s patina wipe on clear coat? I think my truck is going to stay patina’d for that price. My father in law got a quote of $10k to repaint his truck. Crazy

The cheapest quote I got was 4800 for a wrap and I got another quote for 6000 for a “back yard” not sketchy looking paint shop.
