It was so much more. He gave a pretense of being "in the know" about what the cause of the failure was. He suggested more than once that he personally need not be concerned about engine failure due to his maintenance schedule. He claimed his truck had surpassed the mileage "danger zone" for failure. He pretended to have inside information about a single "incompetent shift/worker theory". He assured people that Toyota would take care of the problem even out of warranty. Swore he knew for a fact it was under 0.5% failure rate, quoted by more sheep on this forum than I could count before falling asleep. Dude is pathologic and added so much disinformation, a former twitter employee would say, "that's a bit too much".

I would never wish this on anybody. But after misleading numerous on this forum, his engine failed and Toyota corporate is giving him the runaround that he said they wouldn't, and Karma is telling him drop your pants and bend over cause now your my bitch!

That's more than funny, it is freaking hysterical.

All I see is they made a change and monitored/assessed it to ensure it was effective.

Otherwise you are jumping to conclusions that the changes were not effective, and there has been no official documents to support that at this stage. Time will tell.

His definitely had entertainment value, but not a thing in my post that he didn't do/say/suggest.

Did you not read the last sentence where they said they’re seeing an increase in engine failures ?

The whole Ryan thing had a lifecycle for me. At first, it was helpful info. Then he implied he had friendly inside information. Then, only he had the decoder ring which is when I started to be cautious. Then the promise of huge news being imminent with dates moving out and the news never showing up. By then, I was sensing someone very thirsty for attention. Then a repeat offender and booted from the forum completing the lifecycle. I'm not surprised he's in a squabble with Toyota.

Last sentence? I see where they state they saw increase from September 23 to January 24. Those would have been produced prior to September, so all 22-23’s and the majority produced prior to 2/23.

Yep. Lots of good info initially. It got to the point near the end you had to take somethings posted with a grain of salt.

I don't believe these hanging chads are on the high pressure side of the lubrication system. There was a lubrication diagram somewhere on the forum that although very basic might verify which side of the oiling system this port is on. For right now I'm going with the oil return side and not the high pressure side. I wouldn't want to see one of these chads plopping out through the oil drain when changing my oil but in all reality if it's laying in the bottom of the pan, it's pretty benign.

This picture was posted in a locked thread. I still can’t tell the flow but not much of a motor guy. Is Ryan’s red circle ‘a’ in the diagram?

I don't have ton to say about Ryan other than I found him WAY more helpful than not and enjoyed the posts and info and contributions, his TSB threads, info, and parts etc was awesome, the site is less helpful because of it

I don't remember things the same way as others, he never said a 5K OCI would make it not fail, etc, all that is wrong, he simple said this is what I do and Im not worried about it.

I have said the same thing, Im not worried about it, if it goes it goes.

That said, I get why they had to cut the cord with mother toyota firing one across the bow of the site owner.

as a small business guy myself, you just cant take any chances with that kind of thing, they can bury you in an instant .

Thank you Sir. Looking at the diagram I still believe the pictures Ryan posted are on the return or drain side.

Here's why I think it's the drain side.

Look near the center of these two screen shots. See the area between the two machined surfaces? That opening would allow high pressure to be on the timing cover side of the crank and therefore the entire space behind the timing cover would be under pressure.

    Thoughts?

Look into a mirror and say, "less than .5% failure rate" three times and he will appear behind you.

    Lots of stuff!
This sounds very likely correct. The lack of seal or machined mating surface would indicate a lower pressure situation. Either way, it doesn't belong there just hanging around waiting to come off! I can't see something that large getting sucked into the oil pump so it shouldn't make it from the oilpan back into the oil system.

If this flapper was thin enough, it could break down and the edges could end up in the oil system. Still not too sure how this would make it past the oil filter and end up at the main bearings??

Could this be the "debris" they are referring to??

Exactly. The Tundra is but a peanut of their income. Corollas, Camrys, and RAVs bring home the bacon (and that’s just in the US)

My take was he said both ports circled were connected and the port on bottom of engine along with the others appear to be oil drain to pan from top end.

If return, has to make it past the sump screen, make it through a gerotor pump and then past the filter. Unlikely. This does question the machining quality/practices which would impact the pressure side.

Regardless, no sense in worrying, gonna drive it. If is seizes, deal with it then. Nothing I can do to to keep some hanging flake from causing mechanical havoc.

It would make sense that as more miles are put on the 22s failures will also increase.

The Camry, Corolla and RAV4 are in the “commodity” category of the business. Big volume, low margin. Pays the bills and keeps people employed, but not cranking big profits. The Tundra, Tacoma and larger SUVs are in the large profit margin side of things. You can sell half a million Camrys and not make the same profit as 100,000 Tundras. Same is true for the Big 3 1/2 tons.

The average Ford dealer sells 300+ F series for almost $20M in annual sales. Without the F they would be Nissan and Stellantis about to slide off the map with low sales volume, non competitive non truck lineups, and little profit.

I apologize for the quality of these images. Lower resolution 720p pictures. Working on finding a higher quality scope.

This is straight through the Main Oil Galley, Journal Oil Supply.

For those watching on Tundras, this is the 'a' referenced by "MaineTundy" in the thread titled "Tundra engine recall - interesting news"
And to "Retired...finally", while the previous may not have been on the high pressure side, there is debris on the high pressure side. You can see it in the last picture.

Ryan just put this on Facebook. Looks like he is lurking here
