~7500# towed great. Air ride setup was a little stiff coupled with the WDH but no sway and felt very comfortable towing up or down the mountain.

I have hauled a yard of dirt a few times. The biggest load was a full pallet of sod. I have Air Lift 5000 ultimate bags in the rear, so they helped to level the truck back out. I wouldn't want to haul this much very often. Luckily I am not far from the sod place.IMG_5970.jpg

Pulled my 1k pound ZTR back to the garage out of the muck in the neather regions of my property when its drive belt tension spring broke.

Not that much of a pull weight wise but satisfying.

Trailer is roughly 7500# loaded. Just did a 1400 mile trip from Nor Cal to Stanley Idaho and back. I've been towing this setup for over two years now. Coming from a '18 Ram 2500 (gas) and a '19 Ram 1500 I can say this truck is my favorite to tow with. The transmission is super smooth, tons of power. I watch the trans gauge and it never budges above 40%. No air bags, just a dialed WDH. I have a 2"/1" (F/B) lift as well.

IMG_2999.jpgAbout 100lbs over door rating. Minor squat is about same as my gen2 but I don’t feel the light front end like in the gen2.

most guys who weigh their gen 3s are fining 200-300 more lbs of actual payload, toyota sandbagged the ratings a touch

so your likely actually within real payload anyways

Yep, I’d be comfy with another 500#s or more.

Yup. My test drive was to a scale down the road from the dealer. My curb weight was 5560#, with a GVWR of 7210# giving me a payload of 1650#. I think my door sticker says 1350 or something. Crazy low. I've had zero issues towing with this truck. Like I said above, I honestly feel it outperforms the two rams I had prior (and I liked the 1500).

I’m looking to buy a 6500# travel trailer and seeing guys haul theirs gives me more confidence the truck can handle it without an issue.

Dang. That's a lot weight and no squat. I'll have to check those air bags out.

To be clear, my TT dry weight is listed at 5700# dry. It GVWR is 7600# (which is what I assume it weighs when loaded as we don't go crazy, but I've never taken my setup to the scales to verify). After doing tons of research into all of this, I am a firm believer in keeping the TOTAL weight under 75% of the trucks tow capacity. Payload is where you'll run short first, but the 75% formula seems to keep you in a pretty safe zone. Generally speaking. Personally, I wouldn't want to tow much bigger than what I have with a 1/2 ton truck. The WDH is the key to making it all work.

I sent the 23 out with the Hydroseeding crew today . They sent me this pic with 800gal tank of water , 400lbs of mix and a 8ft box full . They asked kindly ,, “can we get some air bags because this seems cruel lol “ I said “ it’s a work truck , make it work or die trying “. JK , gonna need some airbags but this is not the trucks job on the daily by any means .

Lmao , we have more appropriate trucks for the job ! Today , they were all busy and the job had to be done . Short haul , no hills to speak of and easy terrain for seeding . It handled the weight and did its job today . I’m proud of her lol

I just got this HF bed extender. It's pretty nice. In the lowest setting the horizontal bracket is just flush with the bed. It's about 10' from the front of the bed to the bracket. It makes hauling the long boards a lot easier.PXL_20240803_171111936.jpgPXL_20240803_170853417.jpg

That a pretty cool, you got it at Harbor Freight you say? I will have to look that one up. I have the 5.5 and man does it suck when I have to haul something long.

Wow, if I ever buy a new truck I will definitely get the air ride…this was only 100 pieces…
Is aftermarket air ride considered “just as good” better, or worse, I wonder.

We towed our Winnebago, #4500 pounds or so, from New Hampshire to Shenandoah park, elevation 3500' range. Did not even know there was a trailer behind us, accelerating or stopping. I used to do that in a 4runner. Huge difference.

Yes, it's at Harbor Freight for $60. It's actually very heavy duty. It also gives you two more tie downs on the horizontal bracket. I've got the 5.5" bed and it's about 10' from the front of the bed to the horizontal bracket. You could carry 12' without a problem.

I don’t have any experience with the factory air ride option but I would assume that it can auto level the truck. With the aftermarket, you have to dial in the pressure to het the truck level. You do have the ability to save presets, if you have a common weight that you haul. My only annoyance with the version I have is that the controller won’t let you go less than 5psi. That 5psi raises the back of the truck about 3/8” with no load.

Trying to decide between a 23 and 25 foot airstream. 23 should be no problem. After doing the math, the tongue weight of the 25 (which we would rather have) seems to be questionable for my capstone.

I see some tow the 25 with no trouble at all. Any concerns about payload? Not sure I could put anythng in the bed without going over.

    Lots of stuff!
I would get the 25 if in doubt. We have a 22 Sport and it is nice for the 2 of us but would like the extra space offered in the 25. With the tongue weight concern, there are things you can do to move weight around to get the tongue weight at around 12% of the Trailer weight. In my case, I actually move more weight forward on the hitch as it lessens the chance of swaying. We run around 12% which is a bit more than the 10% minimum that experts say to stay above.
