I believe you do not have to push the button unless you are changing the normal tire pressure. It will know the position of the tires by pinging the sensors and know where they are by the return time. I read that somewhere and makes perfect sense, just like the timing used in setting up stereo speakers

Just got Version 18 up and running, and will see if this is a simple fix. If not, I’ll be hitting up Jeff for some help rewriting some code!

Quick question while I start looking into this…

Will a VXDIAG Nano with Techstream be enough hardware to make these changes, or will I need to pick up an additional ELM327 device?

It’s been pretty well documented that some of the terminology and details are tough for me to digest and understand, but it looks like the Nano is a J2534 passthrough device. My limited research says it’ll do what elm327 will, plus. Just wondering if it will be ok for this project or if I need to grab a new item!

I can only see four tires, and am unable to add a fifth like you show in your photos. My truck is a 2018 CM Platinum. And, I do not have 5 TPMS yet. New wheels and tires are not installed, I was just trying to get in front of this if possible.

    See my screenshots below:

Bringing this back to the top. Sensors are in my 5 new wheels, but only 4 are registered to the truck.

I’d love some help getting the 5th one recognized by my truck via Techstream, as well as showing on my dash.

@Jeff_5_7 are you still helping with this?

Works for me, and I think I have all the software but I’m working from a new computer and will need to reinstall one of the necessary ones for the actually hacky part.

I need to get all of it except for TS.

Need to order a Veepeak ELM and also download the software Jeff mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

Careful, when he did mine I lost my speedo calibration. Which one is more important to you? Apparently you can only have one. I have heard nothing back from Jeff on a fix, just an offer to remove the TPMS. Now that I no longer have a collar around my neck then I should be able to get things moving.

A lot of things were on hold waiting for me. My hand is no better than before the operation so they are repeating MRI’s and never conduction studies again to see if they can find the real problem

I remember you saying something about that now. Definitely not worth losing speedo for me.

Glad you’re at least out of the collar. Sucks the hand is still fucky :(

I know, it is no better than before the operation. It had to be done and glad I did it now and not later. The upcoming test results will hopefully identify the underlying problem. I need this hand back. I could go wheeling but the high speed stuff I would have to be in the back. Not being able to use the hand as before it is basically a one handed drive

EDIT: Glad to see you were sprung from the big house

Hi Tony. Making sure I’m understanding correctly.

When you guys added the 5th TPMS readout to your truck, you lost the speedometer calibration?

I use a Rough Country inline speedo calibrator to correct for my 35” tires. Will my speedo reset to stock if we add a fifth tire sensor? If so, can I simply recalibrate it again?

I cannot confirm nor deny that because I am not sure if @Jeff_5_7 has any changes and I can only report the findings from my experience. I tried dozens of times to recalibrate mine (same one you have) but it acts like there is not a calibrator wired up. I put crazy numbers in the calibrator by hand in the positive and negative and every time the speedo was unchanged.

Interesting! That’s weird that it would throw a wrench in something like an in-line calibrator. I always thought of those as just a simple “filter” that adjusts the signal up or down by a percentage. Wonder if it would have worked if it were disconnected for the new work…

Just double checking this, as I can't remember if I asked when you brought this up before, but you're programming the module with 12v power removed from it right? I know that I've seen the programmer look like it was working while it was hooked up to the truck, but wouldn't actually apply the settings. If I pull the negative terminal from the battery, programming works fine. I'm sure you've already tried that, but figured I'd ask.

When I program it I can see the number before the program and after. I exit and when I come back in it says it is updated and retained the programming but it does nothing. I will try that for the hell of it and see if it works. Thanks for the tip

Fellas, I think I stumbled into something...

I rotated my tires yesterday and discovered a secret unlock!
I bought an Autel unit this spring as I was sick and tired of having to go to walmart to perform an OBD relearn for my TPMS every time I rotated my tires because the relearn button under the dash doesn't do shit except stay stuck in recalibrating mode with aftermarket TPMS sensors. So I go through the OBD relearn procedure on my Autel and scan all four tires and the spare. The displays on the unit prompts me and asks if I want to add the spare. I've followed this thread from the beginning and figured why not, nothing was probably going to happen anyway without using techstream and Jeff's hacks. Low and behold I was shocked when the spare was added to my display. the million dollar question was going to be if my speedo calibrator would still work since Tony's became non functional after his mod was done. I tested my speed with two different GPS and a couple of radar monitored speed zones and every one of them displayed the same readings as my speedometer. So I don't know what the hell the Autel unit told the ECU but I now have a displayed tire pressure for my spare and a functional speedo.

It turned on the 5th TPMs sensor the same way I do. There is only one way to enable it.

Also nice proof it has no effect on the speedometer calibrators. I have though from day one the 5th tire addition should have no changes to the speedo calibration operation.

Jeff, Do all 5 of the sensors have to be the same? I am trying the Autel method but the spare wont show. I have OEM sensors in aftermarket wheels, and using a stock steel wheel with OEM sensor for the spare. Thanks.

In my experience you basically need 5 OEM sensors which makes it expensive. I have yet to see an aftermarket sensor work yet.

They are all Toyota OEM sensors. 4 for alloy wheels and 1 for the steel wheels.
