I’m sure this has been covered, but I can’t find good info on it. I have a 2000 tundra that I upgraded with power stop truck and tow calipers and rotors. I really have my eye on the rough country steel wheels. Will 16 or 17 inch fit? Will I need spacers?

Everything you need to know about wheel fitment is in the wheels and tires section of this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

17s will fit no problem. I tell everyone: If you don’t know and/or can’t follow the “dos and donts” of spacers, do everything in your power to avoid them or buy steel ones not alloy if you insist. But you should never need them if you pick the right wheels with the right backspacing and a sensible tire for your specific setup.

    OEM 16”?

Any idea the backspacing or the width and offset?

OEM off a Tacoma. No rubbing issues. I don’t know the specs.
I should add I’m putting in bilstein 5100’s and I want to go a little bigger with the tires.

How big is a little bigger? And do you want to stay 16, like are you avoiding 17 for any reason, honestly? I feel like there are so many other wheel options at 17”.

Not sure yet, but somewhere in the 33-35” range. I’m not opposed to 17”. That’s kind of why I asked. If those will work then that’s great. I’m new to this.

That’s a massive range. You know you’ll be hammering and likely cutting shit up on your truck to properly fit 35s, right? Your mpg will likely go down the shitter. I went to 32.5s and lost around 1.5mpg after I correct for mileage (your Speedo will read off when you go oversized, you can install a YellowBox to fix that). I’m averaging about 11.5mpg after going to 275/70r17 (which look pretty substantial/large, everyone who sees in person thinks I’m on 33s). I was averaging 13-13.5mpg prior.

Can’t recommend enough that you read both the ‘wheel and tire’ and the ‘suspension’ section of the thread I linked above. It contains collective knowledge from firsthand experience of forum members., and what you can expect/need to know before diving in and having to buy/re-buy shit.

IMO no reason to go 16s unless you want/need more tire meat, are crawling, and/or will be purely 100% off-road and wanting to run low-air often.

Thank you. Yeah, I don’t think I’ll go that big. I think 33’s will work just fine. Thanks for all your help.

That’s the size I have on right now, but I want to go bigger.

That's equivalent to 265/70r17 which is 1" diamter larger than OEM sizing (at least for my '06)

You could slap on another 1" diamter upsizing to 285/75r16 which is almost identical to 285/70r17, but there's some rub risk. I feel like there's more options with 17s, but maybe I'm nuts.

Yeah, I have my eyes on 285/70r16’s.
