I hate the flat fender hexagonal/octagonal wheel wells guys do on the ausie trays and flatbeds. I thought I would buy a set of trailer fenders and trim down to what I need from there, but like everything else they are 4x more expensive than the last time I bought a pair.

Enter the Jake Jake plate roller. A sloppy execution of an idea that I've had rattle around in my head more than once. Testing here with 2"X1/8" stock.
    20240715_161035.jpg

Fender time! Takes surprisingly little effort/time to roll a ring. Something like 2-3 minutes and 3-4 passes back and forth. Scabby piece of 12"x14ga I had on hand.

    20240715_181457.jpg

TaDaa. Had a starfish handy for this photo, but there is quite a bit of movement in the roll. I should be able to really dial in the fender to wheel clearance.
    20240715_181755.jpg

Total cost $30 worth of hardware.

While I agree in my mind of liking the idea, I also always question how practical it is to store stuff. A bunch of random smaller crap? Or a specific use item that fits perfectly with maybe one or two other things

    Good question......
    IMG20240715193841.jpg

If our maths are right it'll be about 1/2 taller than it was in the front

Edit: Ground to front fender liners is 39 1/16ths
Ground to rear fender liners is 38 7/8ths

So pretty fucking level 3/16ths of an inch difference. And I'm sure the fronts will settle down in a month or so and I'll remeasure.

    Wheel wells for the flatbed.
Looks out of place to me. Like a tractor or a piece of machinery. Gonna have hella storage.
I've got a little trick up my sleeve for the bottom storage area.

    Elaborate.....

Edit: if you're referring to the problems that I am running into and all the bullshit fit up, 1 I am undoing years of I know a guy who's cheaper and shade tree home wrenchers who just fucked this thing to death. And 2 I am playing the hand I am delt currently. I had to trim that spring and the grind material off the inside of the perch seat coil to get it to fit up. So if you think I'm some ass hat like the 3 previous owners were, that's a you problem. If I would have known how shit these springs were I would have gladly bought the preloaded 5100s. But little did I know how shit RC products really are. Any time you need to grind material off things that don't or should never require a grinder to fit up you know things have gone to shit.

No, because I would have extended control arms to off set the height. I would do it correctly. Contrary to what some folks think of me on here. But once cry once. Take care of your gear and it'll take care of you. Rules to live by.

I hear ya, but RC coils and spacers on your 5100s say otherwise. You know your plans, I’m just a spectator and I sees what I sees. SAS would be dope, that’s a whole new setup of course so this is temporary I’m sure.

For what it’s worth, no slight here either, but I’d be lying if I said the exact thoughts hadn’t crossed my mind. And @VR6T thats no slight on you, it’s just these trucks. I’m not one to put words in anyone’s mouth but I think that’s what @KNABORES was getting at.

It’s pretty clear unfucking is happening. At the same time, we’ve seen some shit. I had two flashes in my head when seeing the stance pic: The guy with the red AC that installed an OME 3/1 lift in his truck and was banging loudly at every bump despite everything being correctly installed with all the right extra parts, and the guy who mixed the rough country lift with spacers to get 4”ish lift and bent his knuckles plus who knows what else was fucked up.

Truck looks good, will look even better when it gets new shoes and probably ride better with new springs.

You don't read a lot of the posts on here do you........ Did I have the factory top hats? Did I buy preloaded 5100s? Was I under the impression the the RC springs were factory length because when I put these in for the last owner they just went right in with zero issues? Will these springs be coming out asap? Will I be using the 2.7" perch mount on the 5100 with factory top hats? Do you think I'm gonna let this shit stand?

But I'm sure it "says otherwise" from some one who 1 doesn't know me nor 2 seems to read posts all the way through. Peanut gallery I say, very very small peanut at that.

Ugh dear God it rides so so sooooo much better already. I drove over roundabouts a few 4 inch curbs and the field across from my house and it was so much better.

Easy tiger. I made no assumptions. Not trying to start something here either. Just a comment on the internet from some dude about something he can’t really see, just the pics you posted. I’m sure you’ve got bigger plans for all of this and I’m sure I’ve done sketchier shit. Hell I’m rolling on Mevotech or Moog or some shit LBJs right now. RC coils ain’t got shit on that. Carry on.

I'm going to let these ride till after I get the clutch for the GLI and then a floor mount hydraulic spring compressor. Then I'm gonna get with Bilstein for the correct springs and poundage. And order OEM top hats. It'll be done right. I just had no clue it was gonna be this bad. Never had to dig into it this far as it wasn't my truck before. But it is what it is.
