Installed a couple catch cans over the weekend. Fumbled around a bit at first with mounting them but overall pretty pleased with how it turned out.

"wired" in a slim wireless charger since mine didn't come with the power package stuff... Popped a few pieces of trim off and fished the USB-C plug into the center console. Gets the job done and didn't have to cut anything! (Not counting the mishap where I tried to hard-wire it into a 12v line lol).PXL_20240711_193932726.MP.jpg

I did the most comprehensive oil change that I have ever done in my life on my 24 Tundra at just 350 miles.

First, I collected a clean sample to send off to Blackstone ......

    Oil Change CONTD 2

Then came the oil filter dissection:

    IMG_9579.jpg

    IMG_9581.jpg

I opened up the pleats and saw a few scattered metal flecks:

    IMG_9582.jpg

    IMG_9583.jpg

    IMG_9584.jpg

So I decided to open it all up to spread out for a closer look:

    IMG_9602.jpg

    IMG_9603.jpg

    Then I preserved the remains:

    IMG_9604.jpg

Now I will send off the oil sample for analysis, and then repeat above process at the next oil change.

Who says owning a Tundra is not fun? :D

A source for the kit / parts used, and how to install would be greatly appreciated. THanks!

Surely. The catch cans I ordered were off Amazon. Search for "Evil Energy baffled oil catch can." (The one without the breather filter on top.) They are $34 a piece. They are actually great quality aluminum, comparable to the ones running an average of $150 to $200 ea. Expect to buy some bulk 5/8 ID vacuum hose from your local auto parts store (I bought 10 feet but used a little over 8.) I didn't use the aluminum mount bracket the cans came with. I bought a generic L bracket with holes from the hardware store and drilled a couple new holes on one side for the screws on the back of the can to fit through. I used one of the pre-made holes on the bottom side of the L bracket side and used a bolt and washer to mount to the far end blank holes on each side of the upper cross member. (I can take more pictures when I get home tonight if you need as well.)

As for the hose hook up, just pull off the engine cover, disconnect the rubber flex air tubing going from each air filter to the intake tubes, and then pop open the top of the air filter housing so you can flip it up and keep it out of the way. Look for the small U shaped vent hose going from the engine back to the intake tube. Disconnect that on each side, but keep the pinch clamps to re-use. Run one piece of hose on each side from the engine to the inlet port on the cans and then run the outlet on the cans to the intake tubes. I put the pinch clamps back on the engine and intake tube ends of the hoses and used some small band clamps around the hose fittings on the cans.

Why not catch some oil mid stream instead of pumping it out?

Would not recommend using heater hose as those are not rated for vacuum and possibly not for oil either. I've seen and it's a very common problem where people use the wrong type of hose, not rated for vacuum, and it collapses.

True, the stuff I bought bulk is a Gates multi use hose including pcv. A little on the spendy side.

Yep, same stuff. Mine was 5/8 version #27008, also rated for fuel I believe. I should've just bought 25 ft. off Amazon. Shit was almost $4.50 a foot at the parts store.

Cool, I'll take some more detailed pics after I get home tonight. Also, as @eddiefromcali noted, you do want to get PCV/EEV/Fuel or multipurpose hose also rated for PCV. I should've clarified that originally. Stay away from heater only hose. (Gates #27008, which you can get off Amazon) is what I used for this.

Curious how much oil they capture - let us know when you get a few miles. Before install, happen to look down the intake to see if oil coated?

I glanced in the intake tubes but didn't notice much (I'm only around 2000 miles currently). However, the small U shaped vent hoses I replaced between the engine and intake had a decent amount of oil coating the inside. The cans you can buy that are pre-designed for the 22+ Tundra just use a single can off the PCV in the back of the engine. Not sure how much more or less you get vs. running one off of each intake like I did. I'll probably check it in about 500 miles or so and re-post.

A note to those seeking front seat spacers. I am a retired Department of Defense hobbyist with a modern machine shop for my hobbies. I have been making Toyota (rear bracket) and Ford (front and rear bracket) spacers for years longer than any of my competitors. I actually made front bracket spacers in 2018 and canned the idea because they did not work for me. Hindsight bit me on that one. My rear Toyota spacers are $20 cheaper, unique and much safer made, than any others in the market. I am now developing a unique safer front spacer for 2022+ Tundra. These, once developed, will be half the price of the main USA manufacturer. I also only make and sell in the USA. I would not copy something already in the market. That is the Chinese way. They copy and undersell to support the communist party. I am seeking someone to assist me in development and then to beta test the 1st set or 2. The 1st couple of pairs will be shipped with fasteners and instructions for around $25 per pair. Just offering if anyone is interested.

Installed my Diamondback HD cover and the Bulletpoint mount with phone charger and radar detector.

Also installed the Beatsonic amp. So so easy. And it made a huge difference. If you’re on the fence on an audio upgrade, do the Beatsonic amp install for $299!!!

Here's a few more pics of the can mounting and hose routing on each side. I noticed my hose is actually stamped Gates #4219XL, but #27008 seems to correlate to the same hose. Either way, that would be what to get.

I think I ordered the wrong size hose, but let me wait until the cans get here so that I can see if that fits or not. Many thanks for those photos, they will be very useful to me.

Oil in the intake reduces the octane level of the fuel. It will also shorten the cat lifetime if a high zinc oil is used.

But if the engine is specifically designed to collect the oil vapors, why take them out?

Looks great. I don’t want to alarm you but it looks like someone has vandalized your rear window. Hopefully you can pull video footage from neighbors to catch this criminal.

Wrapped the dash center bar or whatever you call it with VViViD Stealth Medium Black Camo vinyl. I have a couple other matching pieces I’ve order that are precut for specific interior spots that I’ll install once it arrives to tie it all together.
