So I was talking about a Banks Pedal Monster, not the Pedal Commander. I had one for a short while and found some of the same dislikes. I got lucky with my truck and the pedal was just about perfect off the lot; my sequoia, OTOH, has horrible pedal feel. I agree about the possible safety issue with the Pedal Commander pulling voltage off the pedal circuit itself (which I believe is the ECU) instead of an auxiliary source.

You are correct in my implications of pedal controller total output not being able to exceed the the 100% pedal limit.

Reason i was thinking about the Banks unit is that it pulls power from the OBDII port which is more robust than the ECU pedal circuit. I was wondering if there is some sort of voltage drop through the ECU/pedal circuit. I'm still a little baffled as to why my pedal only reads 93% at WOT when running, but with the engine off it will read 100% no problem. I figured I could change some settings around on the Pedal Monster and monitor/graph the pedal vs throttle to collect some data and compare. I know it prolly wouldn't directly answer my question, but I like to tinker and try to figure stuff out. And after saying that, I'm still struggling to figure out a good pedal map for my truck: it's a little jumpy in spots, and in the winter that can make for some hair-raising experiences (a hair too much pedal and an unexpected downshift on the freeway to drop mad torques to wheels just when the road went from wet to kinda icy makes for walking sideways a 70 mph...). I realize the Pedal Monster would most likely exacerbate it, but I can see how it behaves on two different vehicles and try to make some assumptions.

Awesome info! Much appreciated! I do notice that my throttle position shows as 16-20% at idle; I assumed it was a voltage offset or some such that just read that way, so it makes sense that perhaps the TB doesn't require 5v to open completely, but does it at some lower voltage such 4.8V, making the sensor read less than 100% while logging.

This present discussion is very informative.

Can I ask, how many peeps install their own supercharger?

I've read the 2650 and the whipple install manuals and I feel for a decent mechanic, it's not too, stressing. Amirite?

the manual to install a 2650 is 80 pages long so for the average person idk. I would definitely recommend not installing it yourself and have a certified mechanic install it. I would recommend getting compression tests done first. It’s not okay to just bolt a 8,000$ supercharger to your truck and cross your fingers because you know how to use a torque wrench. Just my two cents.

definitely did not install mine myself. Leave that to professionals.

I paid to install mine but have removed it once and put back myself. Knowing what I know now I wouldn’t hesitate to do DIY install if mechanically inclined. Hardest part is physically getting the supercharger on if working by yourself in a smooth manner. The rest is about 10-12 hours of work, figure two solid days. I plan on doing a DIY Magnuson kit on my FJ cruiser.

+1 on @Ctaylor76 's recommendation for a compression test. Especially on an older system get or do a compression test.

I installed mine, it's pretty straight-forward if you're mechanically inclined. I used an engine lift to lower the SC onto the engine.

My dad was a TV repairman and has a decent set of tools....if you can read a manual and know your way around the engine its not a hard install to do.

I paid to have mine installed. But that was based more on the fact that I need the least amount of downtime possible with my truck, and the SC showed up earlier than expected (nope, not complaining about that at all…). Else, I would think myself mechanically inclined enough to do it myself. I have decent wrenching skills, I have a friend with more experience wrenching, and he has friends with all the tools and experience than both of us. So I had a safety net. I’m told that physically setting the SC in place as @Ponderosa_Pine mentioned and dropping the tank to swap pumps is the hardest part. But really I was feeling lazy.

I did mine. It's not difficult at all, and the magnuson instructions are excellent.... They walk you through, bolt by bolt. Anyone with a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude could do it in a weekend. Helps to have a friend for the part where you set the blower in place, cause it's pretty heavy and awkward.

Not my first SC install. This was my second one. First was on a 06 6.0 LS. Install is straight forward. This isn't an engine where you have to take measurements or make sure you have the correct clearance on bearings. It's pretty much remove intake, install SC. It's time consuming because there are a lot of steps but if you can read and look at pictures, yes it even has pictures, anyone with mechanical dyi experience can do it. It looks more scary than it is.

I agree with all the if you can read & do basic work it is easy to do posts, I did mine, actually putting it on the motor was the hardest part.

    Thanks for the responses!

I should have noted as the 21 tundra is getting a super charger. It only has 13,k miles, so I'm confident compressions are fine.

I think you said you didn't plan (yet :D ) to modify the supercharger. But if you can swing the funds, and want to make more power later, it's better to get injectors and the larger fuel pump right away. You have to swap injectors and pump ANYWAY so may as well upgrade them to the point you don't have to pull them out again. The only real difference is you'd have to get a custom tune, but you're flashing a tune anyway so not much is changing in that regard.

I have a guy dropping off a truck in a couple weeks, and he just had a 2650 installed last week, but then he's having me pull the brand new injectors from Magnuson, the brand new Magnuson fuel pump, a new tune after he gets the Magnuson one loaded.... all work that was literally done last week and I'm going to now repeat just to bump the specs on everything. So if you have any inkling of wanting more power, and can afford the upgrades, you'll save a lot of time and headache by doing it preemptively.

Good points. What is the cost of a set of injectors and a fuel pump?

Those are things I could sneak into this years budget.
Next year's budget will be eaten up by the purchase of the SCer.

The truck I just did got DW 650s and a DW 300 pump, for $619 and $224.

Maybe throw an AFR gauge in there too, those are like $300 :D

My motor is very happy (ask Sniv) on 5-0 650s & the DW pump. (but he says it is an oddball having such a low dutycycle)

Yea your truck is a freak in all the right ways. Like 60% duty cycle, and making more boost on a 2.3" pulley than any other truck I've seen. There's a guy on the coast running a 2.1" pulley, and making the same boost as your truck. I don't understand. Must just be that Sequoia master race :D

Setting the 2650 is easier than the 1900. As is seen in the instructions for the 2650, they have you remove the intercooler from the lower unit on the bench and install each "half" one at a time making it much easier. Each of the blowers weigh about 80lbs, but being able to install half at a time is a much more graceful task.

I shoulda upgraded when it came out, part of the reason I didn't was I did not want the hassle of the unit R&R, wish I knew it was easier. Spending 10k+ on the new kitchen & just spent 1200 on the Tree AC :p

Kinda like mine up at my altitude and able to hit 9psi with just a smaller pulley where someone else a few hours away at almost same elevation only hitting maybe 5

I see it as mission accomplished (or majorly on the way) in terms of the BMW, you can't do everything at once.
