I saw this on another post, something about having to keep the pump cool in the gasoline. But that means that Toyota didn't really give me a 32 gal capacity. They gave me only a 27 gal capacity and I can't use the rest. Seems suspicious to me.

Any comment on recent 2022-2023 Tundra engine recalls due to production process failures leaving metal debris in engine?

    Why not 2024 engines?
Wonder how long they knew this issue was out there?
Owners will be without their trucks for quite a long time as repairs are scheduled and completed!

Toyota should provide owners an option after some cost analysis of parts and labor to offer the complete tear down or the option to get a crated motor installed for a price!!!

@txag85 no disrespect intended but why bring that up in this thread? There are about 10 other threads discussing your questions.

Ok thx I’ll go look those up. This thread just starting a running compilation of tundra issues—fuel gauge, fuel tank capacity, other recalls, and now all these engines. Lots of frustration and gut check with such a great quality company suffering unacceptable setbacks and not a lot of great communications.
Like the bad Takata airbags n other manufacturers with fires, they at least told their drivers to stop driving. Toyota hasn’t any guidance like that, but I guess they accept the risk of accepting new engines as we all continue to drive them around instead of a check of the oil filter n oil pan and oil screens.

You are more than welcome to use the reserve...its just not accounted for in the DTE calculation. All fuel pumps use fuel to keep cool...no suspicious behavior there.

Not sure why you would intentionally run the tank down to 1 gallon remaining, but ok.

I was just trying to confirm fuel capacity and expectations. I routinely, and with every vehicle I have owned (40+ yrs), run the tank to near empty. It helps to keep any sludge/sand from building up in the tank. Better to have just a little bit of sludge/sand get burned up a little bit at a time than having an emergency where all of it builds up and then clogs the filter. Yes, I have seen very dirty fuel - used to buy it by the tanker and you'ld be surprised what is in the bottom that that tank at the end.

When I fill up my tank it shows about 306 miles range. I see some dash photos here with ranges from 426 to as low as 246 when filled. I've had all the reflashes done and I still see this as a problem. After my last ECU flash my Android auto almost completely stopped working and my gas light doesn't come on until 12 mile warning. I'm sure we all know we got at least 4 gallons in reserve because we can only fill up to 28.

Yep, we've all pretty much figured out that the DTE is completely bogus. You should still have 5-6+ gallons in reserve when the DTE gets to -0-. I'm going to start to use my trip odo to get to 500+ miles before I fill up.

    I should be pushing 600. 19+ MPG average and 32 gals = 600+ miles.

Mostly, so far. Having to drive the truck right now because car is being an SOB and won't start. Chasing electrical gremlins. Had a friend over tonight who offered some suggestions, so gonna dig into it again tomorrow.

What reset procedure did you use successfully on your 24? The 2 methods I've found in this thread (ODE botton and powering off in drive) don't work for me on my 24 platinum

Second tank of gas and second time it's happened to me. First tank reset from 75% to full after parking in my inclined driveway. Second tank reset from 50% to full after powering on/off at the bottom of the boat ramp

Just had this happen again yesterday. I have just given up and resigned myself to the fact that Toyota has no interest in resolving this. At least the reset works for me.

So I must not have been waiting long enough in accessories mode after holding down the ODE botton.

Tried again just now, nothing happened so came here just now to check this thread while the truck was in accessory mode. Spend a few minutes reading, look down and the gauge is accurate again . Victory?

Don’t bother with that method. This is simpler. Engine running, Hold your brake while parked on a level surface, put it in Drive, push the start button once to kill the motor. Stare at your dash, still all lit up, and you’ll see the oil pressure reset and then the fuel gauge will fall and reset to its correct level. Shift to P or N, restart the motor and drive away. I have to do it once to twice a month if I park overnight with 3/4 of a tank on our inclined driveway.

Nah. Just turn off the truck while still in drive and wait 5-10 seconds. You will see the gauge drop to the correct level. Way faster and more simple. Has worked for me every time.

I would advise you not try to overfill. It’s a waste of money for one and two you can screw up your evap canister. Once pump clicks off don’t squeeze anymore fuel.

Just waiting for a tundra to run out of gas on hwy n major crash. NHTSB might wake up then. Then since Toyota has known this problem for OVER 3 years they may be liable.
My 2022 tundra was lemon law at 100%. Today my 2024 did it a 2nd time. Maybe lemon law up to a 2025 coming.
Check out my dashboard. Look at 4 items.
    Dist to empty
    ODO readings
    Time
    Fuel gauge presentation

Did the button sequence reset to get it back to normal.

On a $70k truck we have no fuel gauge and to be safe out fuel tank is the ODO.

first pic is when I started on level surface
2nd pic is after the reset and is correct

    Lots of stuff!
Does it make a difference if you park the other way in your driveway? Either nose up or down?

I ask because mine did it when I parked nose up in my driveway but hasn’t done it since I have been parking nose down.

NHTSA can recall all they want but it didn't look like there is a definitive fix. Mine's at the dealership now for a sticking tailgate, this gas gauge issue, and a loud passenger seat fan. I asked about the TSB on the '22 Tundra gas gauges. He said that was a software update that should already have been applied to the '24s, but he would check. This sends like a software issue. Don't know how much the dealership will be able to do without more from the MoCo.
