So that is what you have been using? I agree with all previous post. I'll look at the PB stuff. Out west
we seem to have a childlike loyalty to some products that have just flat out failed in my eye. But I keep
    looking.

I’ve used Rust Check, and just picked up some Fluid Film. I used to get my LX done at Krown after buying it back in 2007, but stopped after a few years. I really haven’t been rust proofing any of my vehicles and I’ve paid the price. They all succumb to rust usually before the engine/trans go, but last year my daughter’s 2011 RDX had the trans go while I was driving it back from Hershey, PA. That was a total disaster. Ended up scrapping it in NY state where it died. The problem really started when a trans cooler line let go earlier that year and you guessed it - it was due to rust. She stopped fairly quickly, and she was only 10 km from home. I filled it up, drove it home, but the damage was done. We took it to the dealer for a trans flush, and it kept going for about 6 months.

Should have answered your question - no I haven’t used PB Surface Shield.

So, it took me two hrs to fix my neighbours pruning handle/blade. He got it from Lee Valley here in Ottawa, and when he brought it back, they told him he didn’t buy it from them. Laughable, as it is laser etched with “Lee Valley”. He said he didn’t have that receipt, and in their system they found all his receipts except that one and two others. Lol!

I ditched the tiny 1/4” screws/bolts and ground out the holes in the blade for some SS M8 bolts. That sucker will never come loose or break. Again, so tired is pi$$ poor quality/engineering all in the pursuit of the almighty $$$.
This is my mid-level “Japanese” pruning saw that I also got at Lee Valley. Look at those tiny screws/nuts. Crazy!

Then look at Cosmoline to cover up the work you are doing. It's all I use on the bottom of two land cruisers.
It's very effective. The Beoshield is used by another guy I know and respect and he's used it for almost 2
decades under his trucks. It's a preventative spray like Fluid Film but I think a bit better.
Getting back to Cosmoline, I learned of it from a guy who posted pics of a newly purchased 80 series land cruiser
about 8 yrs ago. Well he updated that he'd sprayed it every 2-3 yrs. Then he posted recent pics, the bottom of
that truck looked the same as years ago. It was impressive. He lives in upper midwest rust belt and drives it
    daily all year.
My new 2010 RCSB will get full treatment this summer for next winter cause contrary to belief, Vancouver Island is heavily salted and any interior BC driving is like driving through a rock salt quarry

Thanks. Will look into Cosmoline as I’ll need something to use on my LX and maybe the Tundra.

Not sure how this happens as both ends are closed when bolted up. Will cut out and patch what I can. Have to go into town, so day is shot. At least the have wave us over with.

Just going to leave weld)s) as is. My biggest problem with welding is seeing where I’m going. Not that I’m any good, but if I could actually see the part/weld direction, my welds would be a lot better. I don’t need corrective lens or anything like that, it’s just that it is too dark. I’ve tried 2-3 cheap welding helmets, and no difference. I really need to get a top tier helmet.

Try getting a bright backlight. I have the same problem and need readers. So I set up a
bright lamp so I can see around the weld puddle. Seems to help me

Scored all this at the dealer. Lol! It’s just crazy regarding the amount of different styles of screws, plastic plugs, and clips used to secure the front bumper, and lower wheelwell guards. I’m still missing some, but this will get me going. Also asked if they were affected by the massive cyber attack on the CDK system used by dealers, but he said they use Reynolds?, and so no issue.
It’s now raining out, so going to put the bumper brkts in my blast cabinet. Will only do the rusted areas and as much of the interior surfaces as I can reach.

Even though the HF cabinet is a bit hockey, it does get the job done. Remember going down to Watertown, NY to pick it up as at the time it was about half the cost of the PA one available here in Canada.

Will finally start re-assembly after supper. Would like to get the PS pump, alt, serpentine belt, and thermostat all back in tonight. Will take a break from all this BS tomorrow.

Didn’t start re-assembly last night. Decided to fab up the adapter after supper today to mount the B&M shifter handle. Will have to make some type of decorative piece to cover up the adapter.

Was about to start, and we lost power. We’ve been losing power way more than usual the last year or so. It is not due to bad storms or winds, etc. Starting to really pi$$ me off. Just raining out. We do have a heavy rainfall warning in affect (50 - 70 mm), but no lightening, thunder, so really no reason for power to be out. I do have a generator, but it’s not wired up to the house, so a pain to drag out all the extension cords and such.

    This is it.
Beyond pi$$ed with Quebec Hydro. Made a complaint two years ago. Of course, they had no mechanism on their webpage to lodge a complaint. Finally spoke to someone. Got a case number, called back 3 months later, and report was still being drafted. Gave up after that. Probably going out twice a week now.

Didn't Quebec flood an area the size of France to produce electricity? I hear ya. Been to all those scene shots,
including the top of Mt Rundle many times, cool trail up to the top. Keep at it, this winter that Tundra will pay you back.

Haha! Not sure about that, but yes, there are mega hydro-electric generating stations up at James Bay, and Churchhill Falls. Electricity is cheaper than it is in Ontario, and plenty of that electricity is sent to the USA.
Power just came on. Had just torqued all the bolts/nut for the alt, and now cannot find the two small brkts that hold the alt harness. This kinda stuff literally drives me bat $hit crazy. Was placing all that stuff in a oil pan, and nope those two things are gone. Have no idea where I might have put them. This is a problem when something like this drags on for weeks. At least for me I always have serious issues trying to find stuff.

Getting there. PS pump installed (was a pain lining up the thru-holes). Still haven’t located the two brkts, so tie-wrapped up the electrical harness. Serpentine belt installed along with thermostat. Next up is the rad. They double boxed it which I wasn’t expecting, but guessing that is normal.

Well, miracles do happen. She is up and running. Charging good, no rattles, no leaks. Will need to attach the front bumpers, and wheelwell liners tomorrow. Getting the nuts started for the fan hub was probably one of the most frustrating tasks I’ve ever come across in all my years of working on vehicles. Can’t get my hand in there to get them started, so had to use the open end of the ratchet using a small piece of shop towel to keep the nut from falling out, and then hoping against hope I could get it started. First attempt had the hub on crooked, so back off the two nuts that I managed to get on, loosen tension on the belt to try to get the fan pulley to try to sit proper vs sitting canted as soon as the tensioner is let go, and the belt pulls the pulley crooked again. The studs are just barely long enough to get the nut started. I dropped the fan several times initially because again the studs are too short to keep the fan hub on. It marked up the new rad pretty good, and I was really worried that it might have pierced the rad. It was a total $hit $how. Ended up cutting a piece of cardboard out of the box the rad came in, and used it to slide between the shroud and the rad to help protect it.
This will be my last Toyota. I’m totally fed up with how everything is so absurdly designed making servicing a total nightmare.
A few pics, but not much to see…
Got the 4Hi/VSC flashing lights again. I figure it’s moisture in the connector/circuit.

Found the one brkt that bolts to the alt. Was in a container of vinegar along with the lug bolts. Oh boy, I thought I had blasted and painted it. D’oh! So, off into the cabinet and then primer/paint. Will likely fab up a new brkt for the missing one. Talk about misadventures. Still raining…

Media blasted, and new brkt. Should have made a new one from the beginning.

Got everything back on. Heard a little weird sound coming from the fanhub every now and then. Checked the nuts, and one is stripped. Going to see if a new nut will fix it, if not, not sure what I’ll do. Been spending the last hour trying to figure out all the clips/hardware used to secure the lower wheelwell liner to the bumper and fender. The parts diagrams are totally useless.

Well, it's running. What a job. I want to rebuild the 12HT in my Land Cruiser but I'm not even gonna start it until I can finish it.
I leave home for months at a time (7 weeks this time now, home finally Thursday), can't afford to leave it behind I'd forget everything.
I know exactly what you mean.

Agree. I’m trying to focus on one task at a time. It works and it doesn’t work. Lol! I did this with the Tundra, and basically did nothing else. Now lawn is overgrown, garden is overgrown, and my boat has yet to be prepped to go into the lake.
Stopped at the dealer to get more clips etc for the front bumper/liners. They gave me tons of stuff last week, but could only use some of it. It came to CAN$100 for the stuff I ordered today. Just crazy! Toyota pricing is totally out of control, and that is a discounted price. I needed this piece, but when he quoted me CAN$86, I said forget it. Using 1.4 exch rate comes to CAN$50. Something is just wrong.
