so new to me rig. today doing lots of stuff, I noticed on the dipstick tranny is over full. when I bought, i pulled stick and looked at color, nice and red, but did not pay attention to level.
so I have noticed that the tundras have a separate cooler. unlike the 3rd gen 4runners I know so well. SO on a 3rd gen 4runner you can just pop off a cooler line and do and easy trans flush. Also the 3rd gens are known for stripping the trans pan drain plug. So since the tranny cooler is just on with constant pressure clamps, can I pull one and pump out a quart. ( eyes on ).. if so is the upper or lower the pressure side...can I add a magnafine filter in line

Did you check it with engine on and trans in neutral? Chocked or with parking brake on, if you don't have a second person to hold the brakes.

Grab the FSM and make sure you’re checking the level correctly. Needs to be warmed to around 110-115° or so and you need to run the transmission through all the gears a couple of times. Then put it in neutral (or park, I always check in park) and it should read accurately. If it’s still too full, then drain some out. Or, do a drain and fill and set the level where you want it.

^ this. A quart high on the tranny disptick would probably be about 1" high (that's what she said/no pun intended etc...). It only takes a pint, or just a little more, to raise the level in between the marks on the first gen dip stick, may not be as high as you think.

Here’s a pic of mine when I was doing a flush. It shows which line to use. Note that when you first disconnect it, you’ll get some ATF that will run out. Less than half a cup if I remember correctly.

The 5 gallon bucket method is better than the 1 gal container in a drain pan. Haha

Actually the gallon container allows him to more accurately judge how much to replace provided he has several of them to rotate under the hose.

That's unfortunate, a properly functioning parking brake is crucial to proper, firm braking in these trucks. Get that fixed ASAP.

Take the wheel and brake drum off and make sure the star adjuster (hole for adjustment is under rubber plug in 12 o’clock position on the backside of the backing plate) is working correctly. Place drum back on and turn while adjuster is still loose. Tighten adjuster until brakes just slightly drag against drum, place wheel back on as proceed with other wheel.

Also, make sure the e-brake line is working and taught. If slack exists, you may have to take the bell cranks apart and grease the pins (if they’re frozen; test by pressing on the e-brake and release). If not frozen, grease the pivot pin on the axle to make sure it isn’t holding the cable from getting taught.

    ^^^ This.
Also, note the black lines... those are one quart increments. I generally pump 2 quarts out at a time.
