Alpine ILX-F511. Game Changer

It "worked" but the knob would still drop off and need to be re-paired so often that it wasn't usable anyway. It at least got past the requirement to turn the knob on ahead of the HU.

I had almost forgot (b/c the ease of Carplay makes me a slave to Spotify) that I had loaded a small Samsung 128GB flash drive w/ MP3s to test through the USB1 Port. Not only does the music stop on a dime, unlike the CP lag, damn it just sounds so much better as well. For some reason transferring Apple music files aka .m4a aren't as easily recognized and usable from a flash drive but I need to play with that. I would love to have my whole library on that drive as a back up for when service is lacking.

 

I got it all installed. I have a 2020 Limited with JBL powered. Ordered through TrailGridPro.

I have no sound.

Steering controls and vehicle diagnostics are working but no sound at all.

Anyone know what this harness with 1 grey/red wire is? I didn’t see this anywhere in their instruction video. It doesn’t seem to fit anything.

 

Looks like an engine/trans monitoring wire.

I’m starting to think I need to reflash the Maestro. I know you can reset it from the head unit but don’t know if that wipes whatever TGP flashed.

 

I'd hit up TGP - I have zero exp wiring this bad boy up and, judging from the thread, it was "fun" to do.

 

Yeah, they are gone for the weekend. Trying to see if any of you guys have any ideas in the meantime.

 

I don’t have much to offer because I did the install so long ago but I’d make sure the RCA plug on the wiring harness is pushed all the way in and use the maestro wiring diagram to double check that all of the wires are going to the right places, if you haven’t already.

Also, have you tried it since you plugged into the OBD port?

I installed a the 11” screen unit on my wife’s Highlander. What an awesome unit. Plus it has way more functionality than my 14” screen in the tundra.
If you use the maestro you don’t need to hook up directly to the OBD2, however , keep in mind that if you need to do a emissions inspection you WILL have to disconnect the radio or the OBD2 connector if you went that route , otherwise the state emissions will not read the computer.

 

I vaguely remember there being a setting to turn out the RCAs… did you get sound yet @TuffTundy?

 

Not yet, I connected the OBD, but I’m having a hard time figuring out where to splice in the TR1 parking brake bypass.

Also trying to figure out where to plug in the USB for “audio” on this HDMI/Audio unit I ordered with it. I have the HDMI portion going to “HDMI In” on the head unit but don’t know where to plug in the USB.

 

Does this only charge or can it also transfer data/audio?

 

They included the direct OSB so I could get transmission temp. I guess it doesn’t have that going through the Maestro?

Are you saying I will just need to disconnect the OBD plug by the brake pedal or disconnect the entire head unit to get smogged?

 

I installed the Alpine in a 4runner and a Kenwood in the Tundra - I did copy some notes from people about the brake wire bypass for the Alpine. Hopefully this helps...



Is the "parking brake wire" and the "speed sensor wire" (how it's labeled from Alpine) a referenced to the same thing? Both are green/white.

• No. the Drk Grn w/ wht stripe coming out of the Maestro PnP harness is your speed sensor output from the vehicle this needs to be connected to the drk grn w/ wht stripe that is labeled "speed sensor" wire. It is seperated because the main harness from alpine does not have the pinout for speed sensing as that is part of the video* harness.

S1) Finally, it looks like TRIG1 has four wires, but I only see three represented in the wiring diagram

• Correct, the 4th is utilized for legacy Alpine wires where it required a 12+ foot brake input signal as part of the bypass sequence. It is not needed in this application and should be insulated to prevent a systemic short.

Q2) So, green gets connected to the Alpine Speed Sensor/parking brake cable from the HU?

• As covered in Q1, the Alpine's Speed Sensor wire is to be connected to the breakout wire of the Maestro PnP harness.

Q3) Blue gets connected to both the same green wire and the ground & the blue/white on the ID Adapter harness?

• No, all wires are 1:1 connections. The incorrectly identified connection points are circled in red as they are line jumps, do not make connections at these junctions.

• With that said, the Trig1 Module Blu/Wht or sometimes Blu must be tapped into the blu/wht wire of the main Alpine Harness.

Q4) Black gets connected to both the green wire and the ground?

• No, all wires are 1:1 connections. The incorrectly identified connection points are circled in red as they are line jumps, do not make connections at these junctions.

• With that said, the Trig1 Blk must be tapped into the Blk wire of the main Alpine Harness, or applicable ground source.

Regarding the Drk Grn of the Trig1 unit, you will need to locate the Lt Grn wire of the Maestro Alpine Adapter and cut the wire. You well then connect the h/u side of the Lt Grn wire to the Grn of the Trig1 module. You will then insulate the other side of the Lt Grn wire that you just cut.



Let us know if that helps provide some additional guidance.

I'm pretty sure the XM antenna connector is black and the GPS connector is white...

 

I give up. Still no sound so I will have to wait until Monday when the TGP guys are back to troubleshoot.

 

Disconcerting especially since it's supposed to come from TGP pretty much turn-key

 

Before I ordered, I called a few times and spoke to them letting them know my plans for the future. They mentioned they are working on an amp/sub JBL bypass bundle solution for our trucks that will be released hopefully before winter.

So I asked if it was possible to flash the maestro in anticipation for adding this later so I don’t have to pull it all out and flash again.

They said it still should work in the meantime but I may just have to adjust the fader to front or rear for sound.

My guess is, they were mistaken and there is no sound due to the way they flashed it for the future upgrade.

 

So they only use the non-BT Maestro or is there an option for the MRR2?

 

I honestly don’t know what it is. All I know is there is a maestro unit velcroed to the back of the ILX.

I answered all the questions regarding my Tundra and purchased from them because I didn’t want to stress and piece everything together.

 

What source are you using for music? I'm assuming you've switched sources to see if the sound problem encompasses all.

 

I’m not getting sound from any source - phone calls, radio, navigation, Apple Carplay wired and wireless. I’m not even getting the button sounds which you can turn on/off. Dead in the water. Everything else works though - cameras, dash cam, navigation, steering controls, vehicle diagnostics.

 

I actually don't use RCAs but I'm assuming you do and they're all connected? I guess the next thing would be to look through this thread (probably closer to the beginning) and see if someone posted about sound issues. Maybe find a schematic to see the breakdown in connections.

 

I just connected all the connectors together per their instruction video. I don’t even see rca cables. All the harnesses had keyed connectors and they all only fit one way so you can’t screw anything up.

 

They might've goofed up the pin sequence on the Alpine terminal to your OEM harness
